coping with fight flight modus? (help)

Hi all.

I was wondering how you cope with the fight flight modus. I've read a lot on this forum about what is happening in brain and body. I've started long slow walks twice a day and relaxation yoga. But are there any other things to calm the body / brain down? Or things to avoid because they rev the body up (like sugar and caffeine)? Would like some input since I'm in a wave of fight flight right now, haven't slept and am starting to panick  :D having trouble to calm myself down!

Looking at your signature your taper was very fast and you may therefore have accumulated withdrawal symptoms - according to the British national formulary you can experience withdrawal up to 3 weeks after a cut if your cutting quicker they will accumlate

I know I tapered very fast, BT I experienced very hard rebound sxs between the doses. I used only 5 - 15 mg a day since June and because I didn't know that I updosed in December to 3 x 10 mg a day for only 3 or 4 days. I already had suspicions about the rebound and when that hit again after 3 days I tried c/O to valium Wich didn't feel good at all.

Now I'm only left with the body in fight n flight mode, musslces all cramped up and hurting all over the body, insomnia tinnitus . I know how it works with gaba and glutamate but I was just wondering how other buddies cope with these sensations. What do others do to relieve somewhat?

Hi,

A slow taper is more beneficial as you probably know. I personally cut around 17 percent at my last cut and have learned the lesson that 10 per cent cuts are more useful.

well done to you for allowing yourself to re-instate. On the note of personal care, remember that any discipline that you create now will benefit you in times of stress and fear. I think Yoga and meditation are really good and to compliment them, I recommend listening to music that you find relaxing and music that you love. The vibrations will help if you let them.

If you play a music instrument or learn one, it's a bonus but listening to music is enough. Gentle tensing of the body and releasing with care is useful as well, I have found.

all the best,

CG

I am sorry that you feel so absolutely horrible.  I've used the following things when anxiety/panic hit me mostly during the last month of taper and the first 6 weeks of withdrawal.

How about sniffing lavender essential oil, or spraying it on wrists and chest?  I swear by Bach's Rescue Remedy.  Just spray on tongue.  Some BBs think it's "no-no" for the spray because it has some alcohol  (as the carrier of ingredients) but you have to decide if that's a big deal.  I think Rescue Remedy comes in drops which probably doesn't have alcohol.

Have you researched pressure points that you press on or squeeze on your body for utilizing Acupressure (not acupuncture) benefits?  Deep breathing is the first thing you may hear about quelling anxiety/panic.

My last suggestion is that you "lean into" the discomfort.  One BB suggested not fighting the feeling but telling yourself the thoughts/experience  happening is normal but that you are NOT in any danger.

As for "revving up", most BBs will concur that MSG and other food additives are the worst!  I agree.  I have not really had problems with some sugar and caffeine (morning coffee only).  Some other folks believe if there's something taken that affects GABA OR glutamine then it affects the other.

I suggest experimenting and listening to your own body.  EVERY BB tapers, withdraws, heals differently.  Try not to get wrapped up in anything you read here.  Just be you!  Please take care.

If you feel reinstatement and slow taper would make you functional then do it - nobody gets medals for suffering and you don't know how long you could be like that for or if it will get worse.bi know from experience that snuffing all the lavender and Bach's remedies in the world dint touch severe anxiety and every minute feels like an hour. Reinstatement is frowned upon here but I have done it twice tapered slow and gone back to work after being non functional - see my blog. Suffering does not equal healing it means your nervous system is in shock. A slow taper promotes minimal withdrawals, healing between each cut and little withdrawal at the end of the taper.

Thank you so much for your replies! I'm aware of every persons individuality in this process, but i still think it's comforting to hear other experiences. I indeed have bach blossoms drops, and i also have a low dose of valerian. But I only take those when i can't get my body to relax at all. Thanks for the reassurence. It means a lot.

Blaggy: i'm not reinstating higher dose, Oxazepam is very short working, and it wil only make my sxs far far worse! I only reinstated to a low dose and although i wanted to hold a little longer, i got the flu (yes the real flu, since everybody is sick again here) again and missed a couple of doses so stayed on the current dose. I must say, sometimes i panick, like when i posted this message. But looking back, i've come really far allready. I'm not bedridden anymore, i walk twice a day and do yoga. I even take care of my babydaughter again (atleast until dinner, then my parents in law take over, they are a great help). This month i had 2 windows of (broken) sleep and i'm not in a panick state all day long anymore. So while typing this, i'm realising what progress i have made allready. Thanks for making me realise this! Sometimes i think this will never end, but progress is just creeping in so slowly, you don't even notice it until you look back!  :)

aaah music! I long for the day i can listen to music again without going nuts. I'm a real music lover, but i'm so sensitive to sounds (and light and touch for that mather). It's easing some tho, so i will certainly take your advise and search for some easy relaxing music i like. I noticed a music topic somewhere on here with some really good ones! Very good advise thank you!

I play games on an ipad or computer, I need games that use my brain and make me move my hands. stupid games like find the word or car driving games. Old atari games work for me also.

If I am in a flight or fight mode or anxiety mode just watching television or reading a book is not effective.

Fem: You have done great progress! Taking walks and being able to take care about your babydaughter, youre doing yoga and meditation☺

As for fight flight modus - I keep telling myself that it's just WD, my own thoughts and terror.

Listen to music makes me cry. But I try to stay in now. I can't leave my body 😝 the fight flight is in me just accept it.

It's not easy,  I have had a real bad weekend, today have been a day of: I want this to be over and done with !

I play a stupid game Farm heroes getting really in to it.

You are doing so well  :smitten:

Don't forget your progress 👍

Thank you so much! Haha I'm playing stupid games on the phone as well lol. But I have red that looking at monitor or phone is kind of heavy for the cns so I try to do it less.

Accepting is so hard, especially after a good day or good moment. You want to keep a hold on feeling good, or even just be oke, for as long as possible.

Thank you for understanding. I really needed that!

Me2 I hope your day off wil stay a little while, you deserve that after this weekend. Take care!
