Exercising

Personally, I love doing cardio, but during my taper, I feel like shit. Like physically, my head always hurts, I feel sick, etc. So Workout for me personally is a no go for now.

I could not do it a first but then again I was on a whopping dose, plus 3 other nasty drugs. Now I do 1 1/2 hours five times a week and feel great. So does my waistline. Weights, ABs and treadmill.

I think will be the best thing you can do for yourself and will probably make your taper much, much easier.

Just don't make your cuts too big, otherwise your heart might act up and hurt your ability to work out.

It is very individualized.  Some people can continue exercising their full load, while others find exercising sets off their symptoms worse.  If you can exercise, it is really supposed to help the neurotransmitters rebalance.  I got rid of a lot of symptoms when I was exercising on a daily basis.  Unfortunately, due to muscle issues, I had to stop, and couple of the symptoms returned, although they are much less severe.  Many people are hit with some type of muscle issue - whether it is pain, tension, or weakness; so you may have to adjust your routine.  It just depends how your body responds.  People can have the same symptom, but to different degrees.  Good luck and happy healing!

In the Ashton Manual, she suggests brisk walks are the way to go. Strenuous activity during benzo withdrawal releases too much adrenaline. It depends on the person though. I walk, usually everyday. I walk outside too in a forest preserve walking path...I just bought some premium thermal underwear gear because it is cold where I'm at. I walk no matter what these days. And meditate as well. Try to walk for at least 90 minutes a day. You will heal much quicker and feel way better. If I don't walk, I can tell my body and brain do not heal as quickly. Walking will ramp up neurogenesis and neural plasticity and release NTF's that your brain needs to repair itself. Do it. Our bodies are not designed to sit around. You will just degenerate. Even people who don't have benzo WD and don't move around are miserable. Your core body temperature will be low. Protein synthesis will slow down. Your body will totally fail you and your benzo WD will be magnitudes worse and not go away. People who don't exercise invented PAWS. Believe, I know because I'm one of them. As a Suboxone survivor I know too well.

I used to work out alot.

Now I try to take a walk every day (night) when it's dark. I walk like a drunk - dizzy/weak and my agoraphobia is ridiculous.

Hoping to get back on my horse this summer.

For me it helps a great deal.

I run.  I had to move inside onto a treadmill for now.  Outside,

I was getting panic attacks too often.  I find if I start with walking for 10 minutes,, then move into running I can generally go for 45 minutes or so.  And I feel good afterwards.  It helps me sleep or at least kills the jumpiness (akathesia) in bed.  On the treadmill I watch the TVs, and listen to my music at the same time.  If the anxiety starts to build I slow down, and breathe deeply.  I gave myself permission to quit if it gets too bad.  By allowing myself that option I actually havent had to stop.

I will go as far as to say that without exercise I couldnt do the taper.

On days I dont run I force myself to walk at least a couple of km, usually at night.

I have some health anxiety over running right now. I hope to get over it soon. I just walked over 6 miles. That is how long that walking path I walk on is if you make a round trip. It's nice too. There is a dog park...trees...a lake....the people who use the path still freak me out a little when I see them pass me by or when I have to talk to them but it's getting better. I actually feel good with benzo WD right now because I'm enjoying the benefits of taking less of this crap. Music is better and feel more connected. F benzo WD. I'm going to make it my bitch as long as I can. Just saying that feels like I'm disrespecting the benzo god of pain and mercy or something. I hate these drugs.

Seriously, any form of exercise is better than just laying around smoking cigarettes and going nowhere.  Benzo or opiate addiction is a serious brain disease. You should approach it like it's a nuerodegenerative disease. There are compounds that can protect your brain from injury while slowly withdrawing from benzos theoretically. Why do you think my signature has a laundry list of compounds and supplements that help stabilize and protect the brain from glutamate excitotoxicity, among other things. I have to go back and finish my degree. I was going to go to graduate school. I need to make a full recovery and even beyond that.

If any supplement you should be taking, is l-glutamine and fish oil. Never take fish oil on an empty stomach and if you can combine it with a fatty meal or coconut oil. It will dissolve and absorb better since fats like to dissolve in fats.

I would try to maintain some of your frequency/intensity but you really have to listen to your body. I was doing crossfit and running up the trail over here like a banshee, and now I really cannot do that anymore, but I also got whooped with a cold turkey and had a bad experience. If your body is ok with it, than go for it. Good luck
