How can I get off .0625mg Xanax?

[Ta...]

Recommended Posts

From fall 2014 until Spring 2015, I was taking 1 mg of Xanax a day. I managed to taper down 2.25 mg over the summer, but by fall 2015, I was back up to .75 mg a day. Then  in summer 2016, I was able to taper down to .25 mg a day.

It has taken me from September until now to taper down .0625 mg a day.  Now I take . 0625  mg and  Cut off the tip, which leaves me with less than .0625 mg a day.

When I cut, it usually takes about three days for me to feel the effects. But then I feel foggy in my head, trouble focusing and concentrating, and bouts of feeling kind of off-balance inside.  This usually last about 3 to 5 days and then I am able to slowly get back to normal. But when I taper, obviously my anxiety levels are up.

I hate feeling uncomfortable and I hate being on this medicine. I wish I never took it. Now I just want to be off it completely. Can anyone give some advice on how I can get off this low dose?

I'm also wondering if there's any supplements or foods that are recommended to rebuild the damage this has done.

Classic benzo withdrawal sxs.

The best way to reduce WD sxs is to do smaller cuts, more often.  And the easiest way to do that is liquify your tablets so you can meter out smaller dose amounts.

The "damage this has done" is simply that there has been a down-regulation of the GABA receptor system while you have been taking the drug.  As you reduce the drug, the body will begin to restore the receptor system.  That's why you begin to feel better after 3-5 days.  There are no foods or supplements that will accelarate the recovery.

Thank you so much. How would I liquefy .0625?  I'm not sure how to do that or what amount to take daily. And at what point I could stop taking it all together?

They are .25mg

Right now I cut them into four and then I cut the tip off of each fourth.

I began tapering at 2mg of Xanax and jumped at .0625mg with no uptick in symptoms, as did others who were tapering at the same time I did.  I'm not telling you to jump, just telling you where others jumped successfully.

I have been thinking about jumping also at this dose. I kind of feel like each cut just drags out the suffering and maybe stopping altogether would be the best thing. How long have you been off benzos?

I would go down to .03.  I'm probably going lower than that using the liquid but I've had some problems - that I don't want to revisit or escalate.  You might have no problem jumping at .0625 but I'd take a few more weeks and go to .03.  You've put some time into this and I don't see a risk in going lower and there may be an issue with jumping at .0625.  I was able to cut the .25mg tablets into .03mg pieces pretty easily.

Then do you think I would be ok to jump from .03?

Thanks so much.

It's hard to say.  Everyone is different.  Most probably don't have a problem at .03mg.  I'm thinking I may as well go as low as I can.  See how you do when you cut the .06 pieces in half.  This should give you a decent idea.
