2nd withdrawal

I came off valium in 2008 after a few months taking it and had not much problem. This time I took for longer at lower dose and have at this for so long. Is this kindling? and will I recover?

Yes, this is probably kindling. I'm also on my second withdrawal. The first one was a rapid taper as well: I went from 2mg of Xanax a day to 0.5mg and then jumped; made 0.25mg cuts every week. I did not have any withdrawal symptoms (apart from elevated anxiety) or other problems coming off it. I reinstated a month or so later because the taper was so easy and I did not have any problems; I had no idea that time what kindling was.

When I tried the same taper a year later, all hell broke loose and here I am...

[edit]

To clarify, my first taper was from December 2014 to February 2015. My total time on benzos was less than 2 years (as can be seen from my signature) and I had never tried a benzo or any other psychiatric drug before May of 2014.

9 years later I doubt is kindling. JMO

Thanks for responding. I went back on in 2012 after a sudden bereavement, so 4 years. I never knew about this stuff also.

I also doubt it is kindling when it is this much time later.  I had kindling which was severe for 3-6 months.  After a year it had diminished a lot.  I reinstated 8 months later.

I would recommend just taking it slow.

Thanks, Ive been offa while now. Never had this problem when I tapered off in 2008. Maybe in hindsight,  a smidgen, nothing that caused me to need support. And thank God for that support.

Yes, it is likely "kindling". "Kindling" is when each subsequent withdrawal is worse than the previous one, even if a previous withdrawal was done years ago.  Yes, you will get better.

I don't think anybody really knows who gets effected by kindling and who doesn't. if it is worse then the first time maybe or it could just be that you took it longer if it seems severe. I try to never get caught up in the terminology.
