Hi to all members

My problems started in October, last year.  I had been on Trazodone for over 2 years, when for some reason it just wasn't working for me anymore.  So psychiatrist told me, just taper off which I did basically over three weeks, lowering dose 150, 100, then 50 .. At the same time I was given zopiclone to help sleep probably for roughly 2 weeks on and off. The idea being start up on remeron to see if that helped instead.  No one mentioned having to taper zopiclone.  Over the next 7 weeks I tried Mirtazapine with zero success.  Then my doc put me back on zopiclone for another week to see if they would kick start the sleep.. Maybe a few hours here and there but no real help.  By this time I was getting upset over insomnia back to psychiatrist again, this time they suggest go back on Trazodone to see if it will help as it it worked 2 years ago.

So here is where I am now, on Trazodone again with the odd prescription here or there for either diazepam, also a few Tamazepam both very limited success.  Latest idea was to get me on zoloft instead as they believe I am in anxious state.

My sleep has been horrendous.  No rem sleep.  I manage maybe 1 or 2 hours a night.. Otherwise really light never refreshed, never slept more than this at a time.

Where do I go from here? Does this sound like its a short term problem or is this what I'm going to have to live with.

Should I be getting off Trazodone and what can I do instead?

Nothing seems to help its getting me really down

Any advice pls?

HelloKtb123,

Welcome to Benzo Buddies! I'm sorry you have to deal with insomnia, that is a difficult thing to live with.  I don't have any first hand experience with trazodone, but I do believe that all of these types of drugs stop working after a period of time.  In terms of the use of benzos, this is called tolerance, where the dosage is no longer effective requiring increase of the medication.

I think we've had a number of members that have taken trazodone. I'll give you a link to the Other Medications board where you can post questions. You might also do a search for trazodone and see what comes up.

I'll also give you a link to the Insomnia Board. Hopefully there you can find some ideas and suggestions on dealing with this issue. I had some insomnia during my acute withdrawal period. I tried to use good sleep hygiene practices, deep belly breathing and meditation to deal with this.

Please feel free to ask questions,  since insomnia is a very common benzo withdrawal issue, you should get some help and support from our kind members.
