Rough last 2 days

After being off Ativan for over a month I thought I had gotten through the thick of it, I was totally wrong. I feel like I need some sort of high or I'm going to go crazy, its making me desperate for something. I cannot leave my house or see anyone because I am so nervous and sketched out. This is the worst mentally I've felt so far. My brain is slowing down, I'm slurring my words and freaking out. I feel like there is this overwhelming weight of stress above my shoulders that can get triggered at any moment by anything and it will drop and fall right onto me. Its like I'm walking on eggshells all the time or something. I cannot calm down, its been very bad stress filled nervous last 2 days, for no reason.  Please, can anyone relate? I could really use the support right now. Thanks

It'll pass. Make sure you're getting enough sleep, somehow. If your a drinker, a couple of beers might help take the edge off, if you have self control when drinking. If not I wouldn't advise it, it'll make problems worse. Proper sleep and trying to keep the mind occupied with anything other than cravings and wd symptom obsessions are what got me though it. It just takes time. Stay strong.

I know exactly what you are saying man. I came of opiates and benzos 14 months ago after a 15 year addiction. My live in GF of 12 years left me two months into this horrible WD and I really struggled all along with wanting to get high to take away all the struggle and anxiety. I have allowed myself to smoke some marijuana through this and that has helped I had a few drinks over the holidays and that did not mess me up either. But both of these things were in moderation. Like I had a few glasses of wine with dinner on Christmas eve and a little champagne at new year. I don't wake up like I used to do years ago and get baked on weed first thing (no wake and bake). I will just take a few hits when I'm around friends smoking it. I'm not recommending you smoke pot or drink alcohol each of us are different, we like different things, I'm just telling you what has gotten me by and kept me from relapsing on pills.

If you do drink, make sure you don't have any benzos around. You might get a case of the F its after a couple and pop one and have to start over again. Also, I wouldn't drink enough to get drunk. Hangovers combined with benzo wd are terrible. What I would do is find a TV series I enjoy watching on Netflix of Hulu (or dl them through other means) and plop down and watch a marathon for hours on end. That helped me many times to get through waves.

Stay away from anything that works on the gaba receptors, alcohol is a big no no. Do some exercise, it's a miracle cure for withdrawal. It's hard I know, but that's kind of the point.

I AM POSITIVE MY ON IS GOING THROUH BENZO WITHDRAWLS

But they want to put him on anti psychotics

Hi laverne,

Many doctors don't seem to "believe" benzo withdrawal exists, unfortunately this is very common.

You might want to start a separate thread about your son's situation, since it isn't the subject of this thread.  Also, all-caps is considered "shouting," so it's better to use upper and lower case letters.

Here's where to post a new topic about your son's situation with anti-psychotics:

Hi Prabbit,

At only a month off, it's early days yet.  You're still in acute withdrawal at this point, and that's when the worst symptoms appear.  The symptoms you're having are classic w/d symptoms, which I can remember well.  Give it time, distract yourself, and don't demand too much of yourself.  It will all get better in time.  TIME is the healer.

Megan is right. Most doctors ive encountered are idiots when it comes to benzos and really do believe that benzo withdrawal is nothing as serious as something like opiate withdrawal. Opiate withdrawal only lasts a week or 2, at least for me it did. Take it from me, I used to use to pop like 10 oxycodone 15s, along with oxymophone (opana) 20mgs and hydromorphone (dilaudid) 4mg at times, virtually everyday for over a year and I only suffered for a couple weeks with that, but it was pretty bad. With benzos, I suffered for around 8 months, with the worst months being the 1st 4 or so. At just 1 month, you still have some time to go yet. Just try to stay distracted as much as possible and make sure you get enough sleep at night. Staying up for days on end on an anxiety spree with little to no sleep will only make it worse. Try to keep your mind occupied with something else as much as possible. Do whatever it takes to stay calm and relaxed. It will pass eventually. It just takes time.

I was court ordered to stop last time around, that is 1 reason I got through it. I just forced myself to stop, I had no choice. I was tested around every 3 days. It was either that or go to jail for 6 months, and ct detoxing off of benzos in jail is not pretty at all.
