Help! Is amoxicillin going to make SXE worse?

I know everyone has different reactions but is amoxicillin in one of the families we should avoid because of interaction with the CNS? Bad chest cold that is not clearing up and trouble breathing is why I was prescribed. I want to just not take it and use the steroids which I have no interaction with. The say infection but maybe not, not sure if I should risk getting sicker and developing pneumonia.

If you need to take a course of antibiotics, you may have to do it either way. Regardless, if the infection spreads you are gonna regret not taking the ab's. If you have been through acute benzo withdrawal, the uncomfortableness of taking a steroid and antibiotics should be manageable

Thank you all for your responses. I agree that I may be getting to sick to risk it, and I'm sure you all know everything is more painful during this taper it seems. I don't just sick anymore I get SICK! I was only prescribed antibiotics a few times in my entire life; 3 times just in the past year! Once gave me acute gastritis second time I was just too scared.

If you have a bacterial chest infection I think the amoxicillin is a better bet than not taking it. It bothers my stomach too but it beats risking a worse infection like bacterial pneumonia. Benefit over  discomfort and risk would apply. B

I think so too Barb  :smitten:, just took my first dose. The stomach issue is big for me and it kills off gut bacteria and makes my BM's painful and strange...better start my probiotic

I agree, start a probiotic.  I take one daily but double it up when I have to take an antibiotic.  The probiotic is very effective for me and I don't have stomach or GI issues during the course of treatment.

I hope you feel better soon.

Just get well third. I take milk of magnesia because probiotics cause me severe stomach problems. Just my luck! But happy you're starting the antibiotic. Better safe than sorry. :smitten:

Thanks can't fly. I'm doing ok so far and don't think I even will need the 5 day steroid and will take the amount of the 3 day course I was given last time. All the reading on GABA I've done in the past year confirms what I always thought; our amine systems are compromised. GABA plays a role in all cells.including immune cells. We definitely should not mess around!
