Neurotransmitters imbalance and downregulation?

[Al...]

Recommended Posts

So, Ive been recearching my mental symptoms alot and realized that my neurotransmitters are seriously out of balance, and most likely downregulated. And I do mean all of them. Is this due to w/d or am I screwed for good?

I dont have any physical symptoms, except slight tinnitus and head pressure from time to time.

From everything I have read and researched, you are not broken forever. Your body will readjust, it will just take time. How much time, no one can say, but I see over and over that the neurotransmitters always come back! Hang in there!

I'm in the same boat as you. I also feel hopeless on a regular basis. I've been dealing with this imbalance for quite a while. I feel like a freak that's trying to act normal.  :idiot:

I can so relate to this. It feels like I im some kind of degenerate trying to cope with being a human. At the moment my imbalance is low dopamine and semi-high serotonin; causes a huge problems with even being alive.

I had my neurotransmitters tested when I first jumped off of Xanax back in April/2016 and they were all extremely low across the board.  I was retested back in November and 3 of the 6 that they test (serotonin was in the high range, epinephrine and norepinephrine were in the normal range), however GABA, dopamine and glutamate were still in the low range.  I know this is still all related to withdrawals.  I will be tested again in a couple of months.

Ok, I am curious...

I went to the .dr. for a physical

I told her all of my sx.. and she

looked perplexed and said she had never heard of Klonopin wd. stuff

and ordered 20 blood test

and brain MRI

most blood work was normal

except I have inflammation was high

and so was RA..was 70 and normal in under 20

.......

so.... they did not even mention neurotransmitters.

where do you get those tested and how ?

thanks

I haven't been tested, but I have done some research and found out what the symptoms are.

I might be just hypocondriac about this, but I'm seriously terrified of having alzhaimer's or something similiar. I'm really forgetful, I have trouble concentrating, my mental power has dropped around 60% from what it used to be, I have confusion, I don't understand things I used to understand.. The list goes on. Even my personality has changed!

I'm just having a hard time accepting that this might just be w/d. :-\

Gaba helps keep your nerves calm. So when your glutamate is dominant.. Your nerves become excited. Which would cause them to over react to stimulus. This, eventually leads to nerve cell exhaustion. Stimulants kindof do this but they wear off and also cause gaba upregulation to counteract the stimulant effects on the nerve cell's over exertion. The only way for your neuro transmitters to regulate is to develop coping techniques to help manage your stress levels.

What you chose to focus on will in a way help or hurt your recovery. People that worry will continue to suffer while people who gain awareness and control of their minds, will most likely recover more quickly

From the looks of it you took a rescue dose not long ago. That can contribute to what you are feeling. And yes, it's possible to feel mentally off for a while, a long while. If you think your neurotransmitters are out of balance, you might be correct based on the nature of withdrawal itself. Neurorecptors make adaptations when we take benzos; healing takes time. Lots of self care and also getting appropriate tests is important to make sure an underlying health problem isn't emerging. It may be difficult to keep from having health anxiety. I would say, work with a doc you trust to maintain your health as best as possible.

I take the supplement call PharmaGABA which does not harm my GABA receptors which is what benzos damage. I believe this supplement does help me during waves.

Nice to hear you can do that! In my country (Finland) it's illegal to order

Wow, I didn't realize it was illegal in some other countries.  It is legal in the US.

Well, in Finland everything is illegal. This is the most patronizing country in the whole fu*king world :idiot:

I 100% agree with this sentiment.  Acceptance is key.
