Stopped Snoring! And no IBS.

I know there are many times we feel that our recovery is not going fast enough or successful but I realized in talking to my husband that I have one major SUCCESS: NO SNORING!

Now this is posted in both humor and serious side effects. I started snoring when I went on xanax for insomnia and sometimes it would be so loud he would have to go in the other room. He said he heard it sound as if it went into another sleep cycle and now it is gone.

Another previous health problem that I had was waking up and having some of the same symptoms as IBS. I thought it was from having my gall bladder out but am now convinced that every morning as I withdrew from the xanax I would have high anxiety about the upcoming morning and then -- terrible cramps and -- well, you know the rest. It wasn't pretty and it was  creating its own anxiety. Lots of running to the bathroom.

Interesting enough THIS symptom is now gone for weeks. ( The first two weeks in w/d I had bad runs and cramps and everything else but now I am feeling calmer and my cramping is almost gone.)

So this is a good thing. A thing to celebrate. Almost 9 weeks since I jumped and some of my most obvious personal habits may be connected to my 14 years of xanax and not my health profile.

Also, last night I didn't wake up and slept from 10:30 thru to 4:30 which was amazing. Amazing. Of course yesterday I had about 6 hours of sadness and anxiety but it was dark as hell in Ohio and cold and snowy and I went and turned on my sun lamp and then got up and kept really busy for the day as it lifted.

Grateful for this forum. Happy to not snore and -- you know the rest. YEAH!

Pearlgirl,

Congratulations on these victories!  I'm finishing my taper on the 31st, and hearing positives is so helpful, thank you for sharing.

You're doing so well, specially from what is effectively a CT. Isn't it so very ironic that these nasty meds cause the very sxs they are often prescribed for. It's very likely Benzos were messing with your gut, and are sometimes, idiotically, prescribed for IBS sxs. I think they also impact the natural balance of bacteria in the gut, causing IBS sxs, that's not to mention the fact the gut is jam packed with GABA receptors.  This is why so many people experience gut and GI sxs both in WD and as side effects they get not long after starting the pills.

As for the snoring, well that clearing up also makes sense as Benzos mess with every single aspect of sleep.

I'm really glad things are improving for you, I hope the same can be said for me soon.

While the snoring has still left -- the IBS seems to have returned but it's hard to know since I've had problems ever since removal of gall bladder 20 years ago. Also started panic attacks AFTER this surgery. Gut and brain. I wish I would know whether this can ever be completely solved but without a gall bladder I think it's just a matter or hit or miss.

But my husband does NOT miss the snoring.
