Sun, So sorry you are in hospital and so sick.  HOw long and how much of the phenergan did you take?  I have taken it on and off for a few years but really not much.  I took it two or three days ago and I feel awful now again.  I always feel sick.  Nausea is so bad. What else can we do about the nausea if we can't take anything.  I am glad you got treatment and are doing better.  Hopefully you can get off of it completely.  I stopped it for months at a time and really never took much of it.  Now I am frightened as I have been taking it again only half a pill 12.5 mg.  Only a day here and there.  Would llove to know more about this.  Thanks and hope you feel better soon.

Thank you so much for your post. I feel terrible at the moment. The doc told me it is gonna take a few days to reset my body again. The receptors are still very sensitive and in a bad stress. Feela like I need to take my Phenergan soon. I have had them for 4 years.I stopped taking zolpidem and got this to sleep on and they work so fine for insomnia. I sleep around 8-14 hours of them. I have them on perscription so not OTC. In Sweden we only have them in 5 mg , 25 mg or 50 mg or liquid 1 mg/ml.I will ask my doc for the liquid and the 5 mg. We have also Phenergan with ephedrine, caffeine added to them  I tried these but what a rapid heart beat I got. So I took the "normal" without the extra stuff. I got rapid heart beat anyway from them.

I take only 25 mg during bad w/d from the Valium every night. But I try to not take in the weekends so I don't get tolerance. Now I just stopped. After 3 days the bad over activity started and the w/d hit me.

I had take them at least 20 days every month for years. So don't worry. I think you wont have a problem  The sxs when I got w/d from Phenergan was

Headache

High or slow heart beat it was up and down

Low BP

Cramps in my stomach

Big pupils

Vomiting

Nausea from hell

Saliva ( much and I mean much)

Watery eyes

Lethargy

Diarrhea

Tremors

Red skin, flush in face and body

Fever

Anxiety /panic attacks

Twitching

Body pain

Itchy skin

They need in my case to be taper off in months.

But I had them almost every night.

I don't want to scare anyone or you. Just tell how crazy doc's are and that this medicine if it is used for a long time need to be taper.

Take care and any questions, just ask.

I will soon be back on track and still positive. I had learn something new and that is that never ever take NO for an answer from a doc. I am going to be the hardest patient they ever got and question about all desicions they make. I am happy that I am a nurse with a lot of skin on my nose. I am their worst nightmare. And I will hunt the arrogant doc's in their dreams :D :D :P

Thanks so much Sun for your answer.  I have a few of those symptoms but have had them for months so I don't think its the phenergan,  Dr  gave me meclizine 12.5 mg now for nausea and I'm scared to take it.  It is just a lower dose of dramamine or bonine.  He said it wouldn't dry me out so much like the phenergan does.  I hope I am ok now, don't want to ever take it again but the nausea is back for me so now i'm too scared to try the meclizine.  It is a sea sick med and supposed to be ok.  I never took a whole pill of the phenergan, it make me too sleepy.  I know you posted this for info for us all and I'm glad you did but now I worry about something else.  I am on two other meds besides the valium and so sick.  Thanks for always helping and hope you feel much better today.  Good luck.

Many  of the sxs is similar to benzo w/d...But these was so aggressive and intense. But I could feel the difference. This was scary. I couldn't think. It was like flat line in my head...

Sun,  I hope you are home now and feeling a little better.  Barb, thank you for trying to reassure me.  I am totally freaked out now about taking anything.  I tried the gabapentin for the burning, it made it worse.  I only took it 5 days.  Low dose.  Now this with the phenergan.  My system is so whacked out right now I am very sensitive to all supplements and meds.  Who even knows if some of it is in my head but the burning neuropathy has persisted unabated for over a year now.  I had the nausea last year but it mostly went away.  Now its back.  Anyway, I am just very bummed as I have 3 meds to taper.  Drs. never warned me of the dangers of the soma or ativan.  I knew the pain med could be addicted but when you are in so much pain, well you really have no choice.  I put this poison in my body for too long and now, at my age I fear its too late.  Sorry Sun, didn't mean to hijack but just goes to show that all meds need to be thoroughly investigated before taking them.  I will never trust Drs. again and am just a shell of what I was.  So sad what these drugs have done to us.  Feel better Sun, you are always so positive so I know you will be better in a few days and back to your baseline.

There are no safe drugs, but 25 mg of promethazine is not that much. It does act weakly on dopamine and it does have anticholinergic properties.

During my first real taper from 4 mg clonazepam I had to stop taking this drug because of very vivid and unpleasant dreams.

I wouldn't call it an antipsychotic. And normally, it is not that dangerous at all. But under certain circumstances we can be very vulnerable to prescription drugs.

I've had great issues with antimuscarinic drugs ('selective' anticholinergic).

Hope you're getting better.

It's never too late for anybody. Ever. I'm an example of this I hope beyond hope. If fear gets in the way though it's soooo much worse. One thing at a time. Think sun unfortunately you just really had a bad reaction to this drug. I wish you well so you can come back to sunny days again. I'm in agony with a toothache of all things but going in for a full day's work of whatever I need Tuesday. Getting sedation dentistry but he won't give me the halcion till I get there because of all things Valium. With Xanax and klonopin was nicely mellow on route. Gave me halcion one hour before leaving home. But he doesn't trust the stupid 3 mg of Valium in the morning. Buy yet I can take it then he'll sedate me carefully when I arrive. Unbelievable.  I have Percocet here if I want it and most people would take it as it would cause them no harm. None at all yet I don't take it because they make me feel too weird. Very weird. So we all react differently to various drugs is my point. If I'm literally in agony I might take it though. Agony or weird. I'll take a few hours of weird. It does help pain after all. Still for now aspirin, Tylenol and orajel are holding the fort. But I'm not AFRAID of it...simply don't want to feel that weirdness if possible. So wishing you well, sun. Miss your normal cherry voice (lol,on a screen). But honestly one bad reaction doesn't mean it's bad for all so if you need this drug by all means I'd take it. Just use common sense. We'll all get well. Never say never. B

Thanks Barb, you are very encouraging but I don't know how you stand the pain of that toothache.  YOu must really be able to take a lot of pain.  I am no stranger to pain, been in it for most of my adult life with spinal issues etc.  I have had one toothache in my life and they gave me an antibiotic which unfortunately led to CDiff, from which I almost died.  Was hospitalized and it was there they put me on Ativan for the anxiety that CDiff causes.  Oh it was Clindamycin which caused it, they switched to amoxicillan but already was too late.  I was deathly ill from the Diff for over 2 yrs. and Dr. insisted i needed the ATivan etcl etc.  I did not want to take it but I was a mess at the time.  Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for being positive and saying we all can get off these drugs.  I hope so, but I am so sick and hurting right now. Still trying to find my way and still need another back surgery and knee replacements, also shoulder is messed up UGH.  I will not have surgery now in this condition.  Sun sorry again, I went on and on.

Thank you Barb...It feels hard now but you know the sun is shining behind the clouds ☉. It was a nightmare and I was so scared.

Feel better but feel sxs returning so I need to take the nasty pill again. On tuesday I will see my doc again.

Have a great weekend.

Sorry sun intruding on your thread in a sense. Just want to point out all drugs even a simple aspirin can cause at times severe problems. I don't take antibiotics either unless I'm in a life threatening state. I'd rather weird out on Percocet if necessary until Tuesday. For a toothache I'll try warm salt water rinsing etc. Antibiotics make me very ill stomach wise. But if absolutely necessary I'd take amoxicillin. I can't believe you ended up on benzos because of them though. Your doctor is as bad as my old one. Benzos cure all. How sad. Life sure has bumps though. Guess we live and learn. And no I'm not terrific with pain at all. I actually shake from it. But I kind of shake just as much with Percocet so it's a balancing act for now. I don't want to wish time away but I'll be happy when Tuesday comes even though I'm absolutely petrified of dentists (always have been) and snakes. B

Thank you. I guess it is not the dose it is the long term use. 4 years almost every day. And I have issues with metabolize drugs. This one I metabolize ultrarapid CYP2D6.

My doc at the hospital told me that all long term use of anticohlinergic drugs need to be taper that incl every anticohilnergic drug, from Phenergan to Zyprexa or other neuroleotic drugs . Not going C/T like I did.

It will end up in a cohlinergic rebound. Some are mild some develop a crisis/syndrome. And this was scary!

I guess many think it is a safe drug but as you say no drugs are safe. Look at paracetamol. I had worked as a school nurse and girls in college are OD on this ( suicide)...

For me a long term use end up in a really bad and dangerous situation for me.

Yes I feel better but the cohlinergic rebound start to hit me again. The doc told me it will take time for the hyper sensitive receptors to act like they did before.

How long did you use Phenergan?

And the dreams. Oh yeah. Every night...

No problem you are welcome. No I end up on benzo because of escitalopram I had a depression. I had never had anxiety before. I got it from the SSRI...I got Phenergan the antihistamine when I stopped use zolpidem for my insomnia 😴

Sorry to hear about yout tooth problem.Oh my phobia to the dentist a bees and wasps ( I am allergic) and  now even doc's . I can't work as a nurse no more. I got PTSD since my accident and death and dying so what to do?

Need a new job. Maybe lectur for doc's what benzo do to us??

Or open a daycare center for dogs 😊🐕

I use this med for about 4 yrs but sometimes went months and months and never used it.  I really only used it very sparingly thank goodness.  I just used it 3 days ago.  It doesn't make me so sleepy anymore but does make my tinnitus and dry eyes and mouth worse so that is why I asked the Dr. for something else and he gave me the meclizine 12.5 mg.  Said it wouldn't dry me out as bad as phenergan.  I won't take it anymore now, I have enough going on.  Yes, you will be back to your old sunny self soon and Barb will be fine at the dentist.

It sure makes my tinnitus worse! I understood that the days when I was free from Phenergan.I did get rebound again last night. Very rapid heart beat and stomach cramps and the anxiety, big pupils and extreme saliva, flush. More intense almost panic attacks and I hasn't have them since September last year. I took the pill 25 mg and it was not enough. It still was pretty intense over activity in my brains receptors so I need to take one more pill but just a 1/2 of the 25 mg. I cut it with a knife. Had to take my beta blocker, my pulse was over 125 bpm but I guess a lot of stress add to it too. I am scared of this new thing. My doc said at least 3 days before I had reach a steady state of the medicine in my system.

I need to taper this off as soon as possible. I don't want to get used with beta blocker either. They also need to be taper off if I use them on daily basis because it will be a w/d with a rebound with very high pulse if C/T..So no more drugs to taper off.

I feel odd, have nausea and morning anxiety guess it is a mix of Valium cut and hold and my stupid C/T from the antihistamine. Hope this will go away soon. I have slept though but not good at all. Not even on 37,5 mg of Phenergan.

Take care

Hoping today is better for you Sun.  Once you stabilize you will feel better and then you can taper off.  It shouldn't be as hard as the benzo.  Good luck.

sundanceshaman,

I took it for a few months at most.

Cholinergic rebound ? If I may ask, what were the symptoms ?

It seems clonazepam has anticholinergic properties. I wonder what specific cholinergic rebound effects tapering could cause.

Nausea, cramp in your stomach, diarrhea, vomiting, anxiety, extreme sweat, anorexia, extreme fatigue. Flush, extreme salivation

I got a manic episode due to over sensitive Dopamine receptors. Muscle pain, headache. I couldn't eat or drink. Throwing up all the time. All drugs with anticholinergic added to them can cause this rebound if C/T
