Help to taper Valium

[Ti...]

Recommended Posts

I had to reinstate 4 mg Valium.  I'm 78 and decided to stay on 2 mg. I suffer from GAD for many years.

I want to taper 2 mg.  my doctor recommends a small piece of Valium monthly.  What if I cut 1 mg in half then

Half again.  I really don't know what to do.  Thanks for your advice.

I like u are cutting a small piece every month but it's still hard. I also think everyone is different and there is no hardened rule. Best to do with whatever you are comfy with.

Because of something called "kindling", I would suggest the recommended reduction rate of 5 to 10 percent every two weeks. "Kindling" is when each subsequent withdrawal is worse than the previous one. This can happen when a reinstatement is done. Cutting one mg in quarters  and reducing by a 1/4 of a tablet would bring your first cut to  1.75, which is not unreasonable. However, that same 1/4 of a tablet becomes a much bigger reduction as you get lower in your dose. You may want to consider buying a inexpensive scale so that you can weigh precise doses.
