Having anxiety return 😢

Hi.. I'm new and haven't posted since me introduction a few days ago. I have a question! I've been on Xanax since Dec 3. I take .375 every 6 hrs and it had been working great. I'm also on 10mg Lexapro. The past week I've had anxiety again even taking the Xanax as prescribed. Does this mean I'm building a tolerance to it? Do I need to increase my dose? I'd hate to do that as I didn't want to be on it much longer. But the same symptoms I was experiencing that made me get the script in the first place are back just not half as bad. It's tolerable but I feel that adrenaline running thru my body again. The Lexapro is helping me deal with it mentally but my mind keeps thinking that I'm gonna end up being right where I was before I started the Xanax which was like a living hell. Any suggestions? TIA 😊

That's one of the problems with these drugs.  Your body can adjust to them.  A fair number of people who started on seemingly small amounts of benzos end up on several milligrams after some years.  That's what happened to me - klonopin worked great for my sleep issues for a few years, then it didn't.

The way out is to learn to deal with your anxiety instead of covering it up with a drug.  The root cause of your anxiety is obviously still there, and may even be getting worse.  It will take some time and willingness to work through the anxiety thing.  It will probably also require the support of a good therapist (instead of a drug-enabling psych).  The long-term payoff for learning these skills is immense.  The long-term 'payoff' for continuing to take benzos can be intense.

Each person has to decide their own path.  I hope you find one that works for you.
