Help!!!

I am trying to get off Ativan, please see signature line. I battled anxiety and depression before daily Ativan use and my first failed attempt.  I have major insomnia. Had it now worse with depression. Has anyone here done remeron while tapering Ativan? I use my biggest dose of Ativan at night to sleep, so maybe this might actually help get me off the Ativan? Please let me know...good or bad experiences. I do also fear the weight gain. I am overweight now because the depression makes me feed my feelings. Please if negative no out right horror, scared right now.

The 1st time I tried to stop Klonopn in a detox, they put me on Remeron after a super fast taper off of the benzo. It actually made me more depressed, to the point of tears at times. It did help me sleep, but that was about it. I stopped them after 3 weeks or so and the depression left, but I was FILLED with anxiety. Everybody is different though, so don't be discouraged to try them. I used Vistaril. It worked alot better for me and helped me sleep and without any side effects except for occasional munchies. It also helped with anxiety a little, nothing like benzos, but it was enough to take the edge off.

There are a few good things about Remeron (mirtazapine) - one is that it helps a lot with sleep.  Also, it doesn't cause sexual dysfunction like the SSRIs do.  It is also relatively easy to get off of when you want to.  However, it does increase your appetite.  It's not a brilliant anti depressant, but it does take the edge off, which may be all you need.
