Trazadone

Last hospital stay at Thanksgiving I was rxed trazadone for insomnia.  I am now 'hooked' and not pleased about it.  Educating myself on anti depressant withdrawal of trazadone I tested myself and skipped one dose.  That was Monday night and it's now Wednesday the last two days my physical withdrawal symptoms have flared up.  I have fibromyalgia and double crushed vertebrae in my neck and carpual tunnel ..so I'm used to chronic daily pain but the wds muscle spasms stiffness and cramping added to what I already have plain old sucks.  I cope without opioid pain meds as I've always feared drug dependency...and usually do stretching ice heat epsom baths and walking  but have gotten lazy.  I am  concerned greatly now that i am dependent on an SSRI after two months.  I'm looking for opinions on the value of continuing on trazadone until I'm farther into this process.  Ive just had two short windows in the last two weeks and value feeling like me again don't want dependency but don't want to be unwise in the timing. One thing I know is I will taper this time

Answering myself here but I cut from 100mgs to 75mgs last night and feel better today.  Easier getting up in the morning and I was motivated to clean and did.  Also slept half as long for my nap.

Yes it's a good idea to taper Trazodone. Some people have trouble stopping it like me. Try to taper very slowly at the lower doses. If you feel any w/d symptoms hold longer and they should lessen the longer you hold. Good luck.

Yes, agree. The longer you are on it, the more important it is to taper. If you want to continue, take the lowest dose that you can that seems to work.

Thank you for the advice.  I'm holding at 75mgs don't ha r a plan just seeing how it goes.  I do not want to be dependent on a pill to sleep but am grateful to have had it when I needed it.  Makes the WD easier since I slept this time.

Good luck and try to taper slowly. I would not be able to sleep w/o it myself. But I cannot tolerate ANY SSRis and Trazodone isn't one of them. It's a Serotonin antagonist and reuptake inhibitor.
