Use of Benzo while withradwing

Tomorrow I have a meeting with a customer of my company and am of course scared to death.

I know it's not good, but after dumping all my Valium, I bought a couple of xanax tablets for just in case.

I am really thinking of taking one pill of 0,5 mg only for tomorrow.

Anyone been in the situation in which you have the urge to take a benzo for just the most difficult situation?

Breathe, but avoid benzos for a client meeting. You are simply opening a door for this to happen over and over and this is indeed a slippery slope.

Thanks for the reply's. I really don't want to use them and told my manager that I'm really not comfortable to have this meeting.

I really like to know if it affects my withdrawal speed and if one wouldn't really harm me.

I am almost 3 months out and never used a benzo since and not planning on taking it often.

I just am not ready yet for the challenge I have tomorrow.

It is just for the hardest periods in my withdrawing period till when I'm healed and only when I know it will be to much to handle right now.

I just personally would not do it, would not reach for a "crutch". I would rather find alternative ways to deal with stress, and I did.  I prepared for and performed in a recital during my recovery period.  I found concentrating during practice helped me disregard the withdrawal anxiety I felt. I also learned deep belly breathing techniques where you breathe in slowly for a count of 3, hold for a count of 3 and slowly exhale for a count of 6. See you anxiety leave with each exhale.

It wasn't easy because everyone has performance anxiety to some degree, even concert pianists with 50 years of experience.

I sat through recitals, festivals, competitions during recovery. At times I was dizzy, boaty like with all the usual withdrawal suspects with me.  Once I made it through the event, I gave myself a pat on the back. It helped me see that I could face anything.

Whether a  "dose" would derail your recovery is something I can't answer.  I've heard from some that sometimes the rescue dose does not work. Everyone is different.

Thank you pianogirl for the informative reply.

I will try to do some breath excersizes and think about other ways if stress relief  :)!

Good for you (for not taking any).  Reaching for pills when the going gets tough is a tough habit to break, but if you do it enough, you will replace that 'bad' habit with a good one (bravery).  Bravery will carry you much further in life than a pill will.

I did this about 2 months in for my sisters wedding and i opened the gate to pure hell. The next week was absolutely crippling.

Avoid at all costs. From my experience and from everything ive read kindling is a bad idea

Xanax is the worst thing you can get on. It has a very short half life and it stronger than most other Benzos even at supposed low doses. I sympathise with what you are having to deal with. If you have to use a benzo (which I don't recommend) I would get the lowest dose of Valium I could get and only use it as a very last resort.

I've had similar situations at work where I've had high profile meetings and I've been so close to re-dosing just for the meeting. When I say close I mean holding the pill in my hand and staring at it. However I didn't give in. I think once you give in one it'll make it easier and easier to accept doing it again in less stressful situations = full relapse.

If you decide to take Xanax, don't take .5mg; that's equivalent to 10mg valium.

If you have a chip in your pocket, then that might give you the confidence to

arrive, and not take the chip.

Also, you could get a reverse effect from the changes to neurons from kindling.

I agree with the others in not taking it.

But maybe take a different approach to the meeting, and look at it as a challenge to you. Go into it without taking the benzo and see how well you do. You may come out surprising yourself and it could work as a stepping stone to become even stronger in future meetings. A confidence builder so to speak.

I woke up Wednesday morning and was really sweating and nervous. I was terrified for the meeting and was in a weak state.

Took the 0,5 mg Xanax  :-[

The meeting went really good and was confident that moment and couple of hours afterwards felt so great, but really feeling worse this last 2 days than before taking the Xanax.

Also loosing the feeling I had Wednesday felt bad. Was missing that confidence and calm relaxing state.

Probably not worth it, but I had no clue how to overcome the anxious feeling.

I felt I had no choice and feel bad of using the Xanax.

Would have my child this weekend, but am feeling I can't take care of him after this shitty week and told my ex girlfriend and mother of my child that I had a flu.

So am a bit down and feel guilty of not taking care of my child and be there for him. As if I don't want to see him and am a bad father. :'(

Sorry for the whining. Tomorrow might be a better day.

Hang in there fellow buddies. Tides will change someday.

Remember, it is the same "you" that was confident and easy-in-yourself in that meeting (pill or no pill) that is there now. What I mean is that 99% of that confidence and ease was YOU and you have proven that "your mental machinery" can do it.

Your 'mental machinery' can also do it without the pill - but that's a skill that must be relearned in easy stages for you to feel confident about it.

That's the lesson I would take from your experience if I were you - and dump the rest of it!  ;)
