Worried mom

Thank you for accepting me. My son was prescribed klonopin 3 weeks ago for severe reflux symptoms that the doctor thought may be exasperated by anxiety. It did relieve his symptoms entirely but just for a very short time. When the medication wore off his symptoms returned with a vengeance. He was prescribed 5 milligrams before bed but increased as time went on as he could not eat or drink without it. Thursday was his last day and his new doctor prescribed medication for his motility problem. His stomach is improving but he feels awful. I'm thinking this is due to withdrawal symptoms. I would love to hear from other people's experiences with cold turkey after 3 weeks.

Hi Catskillgirl.  Welcome to BenzoBuddies.

I'm sorry your son is feeling miserable.  Three weeks is considered short term use, but some people can begin to develop a dependency even in that short time.  He should start feeling better soon, but here's a link to our Cold Turkey, Detox and Rapid Withdrawal where you can post  questions  to the wider membership.

I'm guessing he was prescribed .5mg though, not 5mg.

When you have a chance, I highly recommend that you take a look at The Ashton Manual, which is an authoritative source on what to expect during withdrawal and recovery, authored by Dr. C. Heather Ashton, who is an expert in the field. It provides a great deal of information that can be very reassuring during any stage of this process, including a list of common symptoms with helpful explanations on the reasons for their existence.
