Tapering off 2 mgs of ativan without Valium

So my Psychiatrist gave me a direct 4 week taper off my Ativan 1 mg(Taken twice daily) . I had to tweak it and spread it out because 4 weeks is unrealistic and very quick and rough. Am I more likely to have a seizure using the direct taper method rather then switching over to Valium? I tried for the valium taper, but he said Since i've only been on "Benzos for 6 months", that I wouldn't need any Valium. Does anyone have any experience or advice? My biggest issue and fear is that I'll have a Grand mal seziure, being that my buddy just nearly died from one tapering off Xanax, but his GF was there and so he was saved. I live alone, so if i have one, I'm toast. I just wanna get off this drug safely and without Death ! Thanks !

I am going to be following this post.  I am a rare one like you coming off Ativan and worry because there is no Valium crossover for me either. Hope you don't mind. People come directly off Ativan on here is rare, usually I see crossovers.  Was feeling alone. Hope you don't mind.

Oh and are you taking any other medications? And how did your psychiatrist recommend your schedule? I am under the care of my family physician...no psychiatrist for me.Wondered if recommendations might differ.

Seizures are very uncommon for someone who is tapering. When seen they are usually as a result of stopping a large dose suddenly. I would set that worry behind. Although your doctors taper is a bit faster than the recommended reduction rate of 5 to 10 percent every two weeks, at least he is letting you do some type of taper. My doctor thought it was okay to stop 8 mg of Ativan without any kind of taper.  Generally a cross over to Valium is done when one is having difficulty tapering off their type of benzodiazepine.

I hope im replying to this right cause im new ! No i am on no other medications. And He gave me a schedule like this:

Week 1: Half a mg in the Am. 1 mg in the pm

Week 2: Half a mg in the Am. Half a mg in the pm

Week 3: 1/4 of a mg in the Am. 1.4 of a mg in the pm.

Week 4: 1/4 of a mg miday

Done.

Lol I had to tweak it and spread it out so now im AT CURRENTLY:

half a mg in the am and 3/4's of a mg in the pm. I'm stuck here til I get more pills to spread my taper out!

That's NUTS that your doctor would think to cold turkey  mgs of ativan. I swear, doctors don't know their Stuff sometimes. People tell me I'm "over dramatic" and shouldnt be listening to "Strangers on the internet", but people on this site are the only ones who have gone through and understand what i'm talking about !
