Cognitive problems and dp/dr

[Me...]

Recommended Posts

These are two my main sx I"m experiencing.  I'm doing a c/o from A to V right now.  This is my third taper.  I am worried about permenant damage.  My cognition is definatly slower now.  I feel very 'stupid'.  Like I'm a step behind.  I'm 31 years old but feel like I'm starting to lose it abit already.  I hope that it gets better once I'm off benzos for awhile.

I also have bad dp/dr an depression.  These are far from new sx.  I've had these for years.  I wonder if that will ever get better?

Yes I believe you will get better. I kindled twice and had major cog fog problems. I also did a partial C/O from 10 mg of K to 70 mg of Valium. I must admit that while my K taper went really well, my Valium taper is harder, but doable. Many people have DP/DR and depression. These are nasty symptoms that should go away with time. Valium is noted to cause depression in some, but not me. There is no definite data that suggests you will have permanent brain damage. Others here may disagree, but I don't. I can't. It's bad for the mindset IMO. I also believe that while a lot of it is psychological much of it is mental. That's why I always think positive. I believe if you truly believe that you will heal, you will. The mind is a powerful thing. So please take heart in that. I already feel much much better when I first began. My three day terrific window makes me believe this is true, as I felt so great and much better than even before I took a single pill. I hope I get another one soon, as I am due for one. Believe and believe!

Thanks for the reassurance.  Some anxiety this morning.  But I'll manage.  I like valium over any other benzo.  I tried to come off K, but no sir, did not work.  Strange how we all are different isn't it?

I agree 100% about the mental aspect.  I neglected that so much my last time around.  I would say you attitude, beliefs, and coping skills are about 50% of this whole battle.  That's why I will be doing intensive therapy this time.  I have a separate mental illness so I need to keep addressing that as well, though I think I found a good medication for that illness.

Wishing you peace and comfort.

I'm glad you found medication that works for you. Yes, I have always been a happy person so keeping a good attitude as not been hard...so far. Therapy works for me as well. But I never found a good therapist. Instead, my pdoc does it for me. Lucky him! I guess I pay him to be bored. Good luck and best wishes.
