4 days clean, severe withdrawal

Hi everyone! Musicbuddy here. I've been using Ativan off and on for 7 years. Recently I had a three week run that ended in the er. I wasn't able to taper successfully. This was my first experience with withdrawal symptoms. I had leg tremors and a seizure. I didn't know these drugs could cause any of this and it's been terrifying. I went to a detox center for 8 days and have been home for 4. My equilibrium is all off and I walk like I'm being pushed to one side. My legs feel like electric shock sometimes. I am a small thin girl btw, and I'm happy to he alive and thankful for this forum. I hope to lake some new friends and get through this horrible withdrawal phase with support!

Thanks so much!

Welcome to BenzoBuddies, Musicbuddy.

Rapid withdrawal can be frightening, and I'm glad you're here for support through this.

When you have a chance, I highly recommend that you take a look at The Ashton Manual, which is an authoritative source on what to expect during withdrawal and recovery, authored by Dr. C. Heather Ashton, who is an expert in the field. It provides a great deal of information that can be very reassuring during any stage of this process, including a list of common symptoms with helpful explanations on the reasons for their existence.

Thank you so much for this website. This is so scary. I'm going to be checking into a 30 day program to help. I never realized how bad this medication is and the doctors who prescribe it  don't educate us how it will change our lives and bodies

You're in the hardest part. The first few weeks are rough. But slowly but surely, the post accute withdrawal symptoms fade. You have to keep this in mind when you are feeling so uncomfortable and uneasy that you think you will never be normal or feel good again. It's an extremely strange place to be. I still remember how I felt like a new person(a very uncomfortable one at that) when I walked out of detox after getting off benzos cold turkey. Trust in the process and give yourself the open mind and the space you need to heal. All you really need to heal is time. But there are certainly things you can do to move it along. For me, it was forcing myself to be social and go do things with friends and family. I really just wanted to isolate because I felt so ackward. The more I got out, the more normal my life without benzos became. Your recovery will be in full, there will be no long term effects of the use, and you will be happier than you have ever been as long as you trust in the process. Self doubt will appear, but remember its only temporary. Good luck. You've got your work cut out for you. But it will be worth it, more than you know. 1 day at time

Sorry to hear that MusicBuddy. Yes, it's crazy how these medicines take away so much than just anxiety. They take away our energy, creativity, intelligence. And then the anxiety and depression get so much worse. It's a horrible process to go through. It's like mourning the loss of your old life.....

Hey there thanks for your reply! I just thought I'd check in and let people know that I'm doing much better I'm about to Muncie now and I finished my taper 16 days ago I'm in secondary with drawl but I actually feel great all things considered I've gained 11 pounds and I have energy and it's no longer keeping me from work or music which is great I got to fill music videos this past weekend and I'm back to my life again I'm so thankful I'm still taking gabapentin Trileptal and ramrod and I'll probably take those for a while I still get numbness my face and arm and sometimes my teeth hurt but it's like weird random symptoms that hit me at random times but all things considered it's getting much much much better
