losing weight

I have been off my benzos for 8 weeks and doing pretty well though still suffering anxiety -- why I went on xanax to begin with though the insomnia is better.

Here is the problem -- I am already thin and suddenly seem to be losing weight even though I don't feel I am eating less and it is worrying me ( another reason to worry?) Of course it is catastrophy worry -- obiously I have cancer or something though I have no chronic conditions and take no medications.

I did have swallowing and reflux issues early on and did start watching how slowly I ate and probably ate a little less. My appetite seems normal and I think I will try to increase my calories with a supplement but I was wondering if this is also part of the withdrawal.

I took 1 mg of xanax for sleep every night for 14 years and I know I have to retrain my brain because I recognize the rebound anxiety I was getting every morning.

Thanks.

Hi, I lost about 25 lbs in the past 13 months since I went off Xanax. Unlike you I am happy to lose the weight and I want to lose more. It seems like everybody either gains weight or loses weight as part of this process. We also convince ourselves something else is wrong with us. Most people can probably tell you that they have the same feelings. Take care of yourself and try like ensure drinks or milkshakes, they will def put the weight back on. I have found in my life it is very easy (and fun) to gain weight but very difficult to lose it.

I lost weight during my not eating not feeling hunger wave, I made smoothies with protein powder advocado peanut butter and and coconut fat, and some other ingredients, whatever soothed me :thumbsup:u need some fat during this phase.

Thanks for replies. I realized that the ongoing struggle with nausea probably doesn't help either. Good to remember there is a cocktail of blended side effects sometimes and one may feed the other.

I will try some smoothies with protein which I found helps the shakiness. I don't mind gaining weight at this point back.

Also had some dental work done and my bite has been off -- I naturally am a tooth grinder so after another trip to the chiro I will have my bite easier.

By the way -- how do you add the benzo history at the bottom of posts? I'm a little challenged with this.

Pearlgirl I was/am a teeth grinder too, it's a typical w/d symptom, I actually bit a hole through my teeth  guard during acute. I will recommend a teeth guard, the consistent grinding at night often makes the neck tension worse. I also had the exstreme nausea, not as severe anymore though, that's why I started with the smoothies, because nutrition is essential to recover. And I also noticed if I drank one big smoothie an hour or two before bedtime, it reduced the shakiness and inner tremblings in the mornings.

Hi there - I lost an extreme amount of weight starting 3 weeks after I jumped (I felt like I was in that movie "Thinner" - losing 1-2 pounds per DAY) and had to force feed myself for about a week and a half. I really scared the mess out of myself, but after a week and a half, I got back to normal. This severe weight loss also coincided with my most acute symptoms as well. I tapered WAY too fast. I lived on ensure and protein drinks and would set my alarm every few hours to chug one down.

Keep eating and stay hydrated - this should pass and is a very common symptom. But you may have to remind yourself to eat and even when you do keep eating, you may still see some loss for a few days.

Take care of yourself!

I lost 30 lbs (from 144 to 110) during this .....

Also lost a lot of muscle mass...

It's normal...

Your metabolism is probably quite high (adrenaline, etc)

I lost 7kg in taper  and early recovery but now I have put on 9kg. Grrrrr!!! I did not have major a petite problems. Didnt really change the way I eat except for excluding a few things that irritated me. So I think the loss is normal. As for the gain? WTF?? I hope it evens out. Don't worry about it.
