Lorazepam nightmare and need advice!

Hi..I have been taking 1mg lorazepam for about a year. I had no idea I had a problem until I decided to stop taking it last week as I didn't want to be on it anymore. 3 days in I woke up in the night and had a huge panic attack out of the blue. I went to my dr who told me to wean off and cut the dose in half. I'm 6 days in and it's been very up and down, very difficult to cope with the anxiety. I now realise I need to switch to Valium is I'm off to my dr tomorrow to see if she will support me in this. I have so many questions but for now..how much Valium should I start in?? I was taking 1mg lorazepam up until a week ago, but I'm on day 6 of 0.5mg. So 5 or 10mg Valium? And us the switch straightforward or does that bring more problems? I know it's not a massive dose, but for me it's been terrible. And do the withdrawals settle in between reductions? And by how much and how often should I reduce the dose? I'm now very desperate to know what I'm doing as I don't feel supported in this at all. Thank you so much.

Welcome to BenzoBuddies, EvaPip.

Those are all good questions, so let me give you a good link to start posting these concerns to the wider membership.

Substitution Taper Plans is where you can post your questions about crossing over to a longer-acting benzodiazepine.

When you have a chance, I highly recommend that you take a look at The Ashton Manual, which is an authoritative source on what to expect during withdrawal and recovery, authored by Dr. C. Heather Ashton, who is an expert in the field. It provides a great deal of information that can be very reassuring during any stage of this process, including a list of common symptoms with helpful explanations on the reasons for their existence.
