Be careful with amitriptyline

Buddies. I took amitriptyline 2 nights ago for anxiety and sleep out of desperdition. 2 hours later had chest pain and severe palpitations. Finally ended up in er and admitted. All tests normal so far. Could not get my heart rate to come down for hours. Felt pounding throughout my body. Eventually resolved. Up all night in hell. This happens because amitriptyline causes release of norepinephrine which is adrenalin. Our systems are already in fight or flight due to lack of gaba. This was like putting gas on a fire.  Please talk to doctor about any drug affecting norepinephrine. Keep fighting.

I can concur with your experience.  I took one dose a few months ago and felt like I was begining to have a fit, it was awful.

PS I also think mirtazapine has the same action which I have been using for many months and have just got off it and just started Trazodone - just hope it works when I fing the right dose. I have had 2 sleepless nights and very spaced out.
