Should I slow down my taper?

[...]

Recommended Posts

I've been tapering off 2 mg Klonopin for 7 months, having had some periods holding and I'm now down to 0.6 mg.

Since 1mg I've been cutting 0.01mg a day, is this too fast?.

I almost regret the periods I kept holding, just want to get down to 0mg as fast as possible so my brain can start to heal.

The anxiety level has been very high the last three months and the periods holding didn't help.

Ironically, it is going down as fast as possible that causes your brain more injury.  This is damage that was not there to begin with and it is avoidable.  The way to avoid this extra injury is to go slow and keep symptoms to a bare minimum.

But, if the anxiety is high all the time?, generally speaking would 0.01mg daily reductions be to fast?.

I'm housebound going on the forth month because of the extreme agoraphobia.

I paused for two months when I reached 1mg, but that didn't help.

I know hospitals taper 2mg in about two month which is way to fast, even if you are under supervision.

.01mg K per day reduction is extremely fast at your dose, but what matters is how it affects you.  Since you are housebound I'd say you are going too fast.  It does not surprise me that a two-month hold did not help.  Once significant symptoms are entrenched they can be quite difficult to get rid of.

Thanks for the feedback, it's hard to know what is the right way.

I had increased agoraphobia before I started tapering, which I think was caused by tolerance.

I had to taper a bit fast in the beginning in order to keep my driving license.

I also took a months pause at 0.75mg and that didn't help either, strangely the panic seemed worse at 0.75mg then at 0.60mg.

Guess I will try 0.01mg reduction until I reach 0.50mg, then pause for a bit and then continue at 0.005mg, that way I will follow Dr. Ashtons advice of no more than 10% each 10 days if I understood it correctly.
