So yesterday I posted how happy I was to have a great window.  Last night I took amitriptyline for sleep for the first time. I have taken it before with no problems. 2 hours later I had a little chest tightness, then a wave of adrenaline came like no other. My heart rate increased so I tried deep breathing but it felt different. I couldn't calm down. Heart was mildly elevated at 115 but I could feel it pounding like never before. I became sweaty and tingly. Eventually it stopped and I actually fell asleep. I then woke up in a start with same feelings. Heart rate 122. Laid awake for 3 hours and it calmed down to 75. Went to work and it started again. I am a physician so I did an ekg on myself and it said I was in atrial flutter. I doubled checked with cardiologist and he said go to RR. I was checked out. No heart attack. Now admitted for observation. Keep getting spells of elevated hr and pounding in my body. They offered me benzodiazepines and I said no. I am scared to take anything. I told them about withdrawal and they look at me like I am nuts. Tomorrow I have a stress test on my heart. I hope I can sleep tonight. No idea how to pay these medical bills. I am over $100000 in debt from custody battle for son. What a nightmare this is

I'm sorry to hear. I am glad you have it checked out. I hope everything is OK.  I had chest pains for months and I have been to ER and urgent care for couple of times and EKG, chest Xray, other tests are normal. But I asked my family doctor to refer me to see a cardiologist soon to make sure again. Hope you feel better soon.

Good gosh, this is just too much!!!  I don't blame you for refusing a Benzo and also that ppl you tell do NOT understand what you tell them!!!  Sometimes it is very lonely and scary here in this recovery.

I hope you are OK and that you are just showing recovery symptoms as your cardiovascular system searches for homeostasis altered by the Benzos.

Keep posting...

Damn...sorry to hear this. These drugs are horrible and what a waste of life I feel you. Divorce is a son of a bitch. Went through one mid taper. I figure after all this if I don't stroke out, I'm bionic. Get well.

Are you still in flutter?

They must be giving you meds for that.....

They probably will help during wd too....

Prayers for a speedy recovery

I'm sorry to hear this.  Thank god you checked yourself and are in a place where you are getting care.  As for the divorce, I can relate.  Was sideswiped by one during my taper and it's been vicious.

Davi,

This is most probably withdrawal and nothing is wrong with your heart.  Your heart fluttering and racing is probably due to erratic adrenaline surges due to the overproduction of cortisol with downregulated GABA receptors not working in synch with the excitatory glutamate neurotransmitters.  In a nutshell, this is what withdrawal feels like.

You'll be okay.

Hey...

I had exactly the same reaction when I took an antibiotic 7 weeks before, only one pill. The night and the day after were hell. I did not go to the ER because I was too scared they would give me a benzo when I would collapse. I can relate how a divorce feels.. thats a burden on top.

I keep my fingers crossed that this is just wd for you -I would assume it..

But anyway, you will find a way to cope!

Hug,

Marigold
