Nightmares anyone?

I wanted to see if any one is experiencing nightmares.  I am not talking like scary monsters or dying or the likes.  But like stuff that has happened in the past or fears coming through.  I don't sleep very well at night and I typically only get 5 hours of sleep. I wake up and never feel rested from my nightmares.  I typically get them every night.  I have had nightmares since I started K and they have progressively gotten worse with tapering.  I then lie in bed trying to fall back asleep given it is 5 in the morning.  I do sometimes have light lucid dreaming that is just as bad.  I have to take out my ear plugs, take off my eye mask, jump out of bed and shake it off.  It feels like I am stuck in another reality and I hate it.  Some form of DP every morning.  Mornings typically suck for me.  Anyone else have this?  I long for the day of waking up rested and having normal dreams.

Bizarre dreams were one of the symptoms I had before I started tapering…a sign that something wasn't right.  Not necessarily violent or scary, just unsettling and bizarre.

As I went through the taper process, all dreaming went away for a long time.  Then a few odd dreams, then slowly normal dreaming came back.

You sound like you are wearing ear plugs? I have always had the dream thing going on, and it varies. More lately just odd, odd.

Because of this, I sleep to my favorite movies. I have a timer on my TV and it does turn off. I set it for about an hour. I also have a sleep machine, so when the TV turns itself off, the sleep machine is still there to mask noises. Then, if I wake (and especially if it is a nightmare), I turn on the TV (favorite movie of some sort) or I will go back to the dream/ nightmare. I keep the remote by me so I don't have to get up.

Hope you get some relief.

Thank you for your response.  Yes, bizarre dreams.  I agree with you.  I had them since I started on clonazepam.  Definitely a sign that something isn't right.  I can only hope that they mellow out as I continue with my taper.  I don't look forward to falling asleep.  I try to deep breathe and focus on positive stuff, make affirmations and such.  It helps sometimes but I will try to be more consistent and see if it helps.

Yes, I wear earplugs.  My older son lives with me and I need complete silence and darkness to sleep.  I used to be able to fall asleep to music.  Maybe I should give that a try again.  I don't have cable or a tv in my room so I do keep my phone close by to reach for to read a success story or watch something on Netflix.  But definitely getting up and moving around is what helps the most.  Otherwise, I will go right back into the bizarre dreaming.  I just wish I could get some respite in this department to be able to cope with the rest of the bizarre crap from this taper.  This is the challenge of my life, as I am sure it is for most of us here.  Thank you for sharing.  I too hope to gain relief soon.

I had one recurring actual nightmare but only if I slept in the day. Now that's gone. I still get very bizarre, sometimes disturbing "twisted" dreams but they are slowly receding with my dose reductions. I dreamt the twisted stuff more on higher doses than I do now. B

Benzo Barb,

Thanks for your feedback.  I am hoping my nightmares and overall sleep mellow out.  My CNS is extremely sensitive so I am crawling through my taper right now.  But as long as I am cutting I am moving towards coming off the drug.  Hope you are well. Take care.

I only dream really bad vivid nightmares if I take antihistamines for sleep. During my last cut I didn't remember my dreams for about a month. I only slept a few hours every night during this month. But since a week a sleep + 9 hours every night. Some have very vivid dreams and lucid too. But I am a very spiritual person and have had astral projection and and can go in to hypnosis during guided meditation.

My sleep at the moment is good. I am really tired and sleep also during the day. Catch every chance I can to get a few hours of sleep. I guess my insomnia will return someday so now I sleep as much as I can 😴😴😴😴

I sympathize with anyone who has regular nightmares. Even if you sleep it's not a restful sleep. I have nightmares regularly. I don't know if it is withdrawal or the 200 mg of  trazadone that I take nightly  to sleep. I'm at .38mg.  Will try to reduce the trazadone as soon as I've completed the benzo taper.

Yeah, -its all normal stuff, vivid bizarre intense wacky interrelated and like u can direct them, (is that lucid?) -i had them way worse on opiates, -which is normal... got a diary full of them... -now they r back consistantly after a cut, not so bad as things settle...

I dont think many people get true nightmares, but they sure can b intense enough for me to wake with a very sore jaw... i had a consistant theme of being trapped or chased type thing...

so yeah, -i think they will ease a bit in time...

i also had a huge issue with the tiniest bit of light... is ok now...

Cheers... sweet dreams... lol

Shaftoe,

I have tried trazodone and that definitely gave me horrible nightmares.  I can empathize with you as well.  I wish us peaceful sleep in our futures.  Take care.

Yes. There's some very well explained physiology behind it too; it's rebound REM sleep.

Can you expand further?  Is it that as we cut these bizarre dreams are a sort of REM sleep returning to normal?

Sundanceshaman,

I am super fatigued and exhausted during the day.  I only sleep about 5 to 6 hours of sleep a night since I started tapering.  I wish sometimes I did not remember my dreams.  Last night I had a really nice dream and it set the tone for a lighter day today even though I have withdrawal symptoms from my last cut.  I only wish I could sleep 8 hours but I am not interested at this point of taking anything more for that.  Thanks for sharing your experience.  I have been trying to be consistent with my sleep hygiene so as to get to sleep at my regular time.

Cantfly,

Thanks for sharing.  Although it doesn't take away from the discomfort of the experience, in a way I am glad I am not alone. I grind through the night so I have a custom made mouth guard.  Sweet dreams to you as well.

Grapejuice,

Hi. I took it twice. First night I wasn't sure. By the second night, I was over it. Talk about strange. BTW,  it looks like you are almost done with your taper. Awesome.
