Hello, I am attempting taper off of Xanax/Alprozolam.  I have been on 2 mg per day for approximately 15 years.  I am attempting the basic taper and am down to 1.25 mg per day.  I also have severe Fibromyalgia and type 2 Diabeties.

Hello Btrekker,

Welcome to Benzo Buddies! Well done so far on your taper. You've come to the right place for support and information as you journey to be benzo free.

Since you have underlying health conditions I believe it's important to use a slow taper so that the withdrawal symptoms can be minimized.  Usually a reduction of no more than 5-10% every 10-14 days is suggested. I'll give you a link to the General Taper Plans for additional information.

I'll also give you a link to the Ashton Manual, it is an excellent resource about these types of drugs and how to withdraw. It was written by Dr. Heather Ashton, an expert in the field.

I'm glad you've joined the forum. You'll get a lot of support here as you work towards being benzo free. Please feel free to ask questions, we're here to help.

Welcome! You have come to the right place. I found benzo buddies part way through my taper off xanax after 30 years and the support here was a godsend. You will find advice on your taper as well as good friends who offer a voice of encouragement when you think you can't make it. The advice I would give you is to taper at a pace your body can handle- listen to your body and slow down if need be . I honestly  think in my rush to get off the xanax  I probably tapered too fast which I believe is slowing down my recovery now . But I am still so glad to be free- it was worth it to quit the xanax!. Also take good care of yourself- if you need extra rest - do it. If you need to avoid a stressful situation or person try to do that if you can. You need to put yourself first right now- you are in a battle. Best of luck!

Greetings and best of luck with your taper, As someone else stated, it's a good idea to look into the Ashton manual. It's helped me more than I van say.
