How do you know when the nightmare is over?

Just curious...how do you know when you're 100% healed? On several occasions, I deemed myself "cured" because I was in a window, only be beaten down by a wave. Ive been in a wave for the last 15 days (my longest time without a window). How have you known you were cured and not just in another window? I read somewhere were someone just woke up one morning and felt normal and just knew it was over. Thanks for your words of encouragement.

For me it has been a gradual process. I'm still not at the cured point! You may wake up and feel great but that doesn't mean that it's over. At about 8 months out I had a few days where I felt pretty good. The next thing I knew, back into a wave. Don't let that discourage you! I think that it will be a gradually feeling better and then it will disappear for good. I'm almost there. It's easy to forget how bad it was in the beginning or even a few months back.

For me I felt like I was fine one day. It's been over a month now and I'm afraid of setbacks but they haven't happened yet. I think everyone heals differently. I had given up hope in November of ever being back to "normal" then in December until now I've felt fine.

I think if you have to ask it probably is not over. you would feel the same way as before you started benzos, of course I don't remember that but I do know it is not over yet.

Sending you good thoughts, Davis!

Like an other addict, I don't think I will ever be 100% healed, it's a daily journey.  But I was on zopiclone for 17 years and it's been a long old road back.  I feel better now than I have in 20 yrs, that's for sure.

For me it feels as if it'll never be over. I'm an honest person and this is how I feel right now. I've had nothing but severe physical sxs for about three months now. No sooner has one improved, another one takes it's place. I often read the success stories on here as I have to keep reminding myself that this does, apparently, get better. *sigh*

Hi Karuso2012, I know dappleapple you are in the UK. I was wondering if you saw the video by Ian Singleton who runs a benzo helpline also in the UK. You can call and talk to him. I'm putting the links here check it out. He talks about his experience and it was really helpful for me. It is like a five minute and one minute video:

Thanks. I know about the Bristol Tranquilizer Project, I may call them at some point. I wish I could access one of their support groups, but they're based at the total opposite end of the country. All I've ever been offered is 'groups' run by the addiction agency, and the LAST thing I need right now is to be around people who could easily lead me back to Benzos. I am having extremely bad cravings for Benzos, to the point I can't even escape it if I'm asleep because every dream I have involves me finding huge containers of Benzos and swallowing handfuls.

My biggest problem right now is I just don't care. I've lost most of my friends, I never go out, I spend 98% of my time on the sofa planning my next struggle to the kitchen for a drink or to perform some stupid, menial task. I feel like I have a terminal illness. I lost both my biological dad and my stepdad to terminal Cancer, and to look at my lifestyle now, you could easily mistake my condition for a terminal illness. I feel awful saying this but it's true.

I think the next thing to go will be my husband because he makes demands of me that I cannot fulfill, most of which involve physical chores like washing all his clothes when he's working. When he's working, he does NOTHING for himself, not even cook his own food, he has no idea how unwell these tasks make me. Again, if he wants to go, I don't care. I don't have any energy to use on caring. It's not that I don't care about others, I love him very much, but all I have towards my existence right now is total apathy.

I'm sorry about your dad and stepdad dappleapple. I lost my GF two months into this, bitch. I hope you can work things out with your husband. I know exactly how you feel because I felt and sometimes feel the same way. We are going to get better, it is not really terminal but I know it feels that way. We lose a lot because of this. The loss heightens our depression and brings on the hopelessness that makes us wish we would die. Things hopefully will look brighter in the future.
