New member looking for support and help

Hi there.

I joined BB looking for both support and help. I find I comforting that I'm not alone in this hell and wish to help other members as best as I can. I'm a long time user (10 years) of oxazepam which I have used for both insomnia and anxiety. Last summer I decided that I want to quit benzos all together and started to taper down. I have been free from benzos for 2 months now. Going through hellish withdrawl at the moment but I'm trying to stay positive and hope that I can return to a normal life someday.

Hello Raptureman,,

Welcome to Benzo Buddies and congratulations on being Benzo Free!!  Two months off is pretty early in recovery and you still might very well be in the acute phase where the symptoms are the strongest.  Staying positive and believing in your healing will help you get through this process. The good thing is that it is temporary and with time, the withdrawal effects will ease up.  The central nervous system wants to return to balance and will work towards that goal.

I'll give you a link to the Post Withdrawal Recovery Board where you can post and receive feedback from members.

I'll also give you a link to the Ashton Manual, it is an excellent resource about these types of drugs and how to withdraw. Although it discusses tapering in detail, it also gives good information about the withdrawal process in general. It was written by Dr. Heather Ashton, an expert in the field.

We'll be here to support and encourage you as you recover.  In my opinion, coming off benzos was the best thing I've done for my health and wellness.  Please ask questions, we're here to help.
