Abdominal/lower back pain.

Recommended Posts

I've been experiencing a pain in my abdomin and lower back. It raps all the way around my core so even my hips hurt. It is worse when I sit upright and relieves when I stand or lay down. I read that the GABA receptors can affect your stomach but wasn't sure what that meant. It does not affect my digestion in anyway and started when my withdrawal/tolerance began. Anybody know if this is a symptom?

Hi Matty.  The abdominal/back pain is a withdrawal symptom.  I had SEVERE muscle pain along with digestion issues when in taper.  Doc thought I had diverticulitis - I didn't!

I am now off Valium for 3 months (and didn't have that pain since May) but a couple days ago the back and abdominal pain came back.  It's not unbearable but just annoying.  My muscle issues go from the spine, over the hip and end at the pubic bone on the left side.  Fun Fun!  Please try to not worry.  I think this is just muscle tension and brain wiring trying to heal.  Easy stretching may help and if it does not let up, then maybe you'd need medical attention.

It's so weird that our muscles (and nerve receptors) are so screwed up with benzo withdrawal.  Hope you feel better soon.

If it started with withdrawal then I imagine it's a symptom of that. Our abdominal muscles can be very painful as well as any muscles in our body. If it's constant though and extremely severe spreading from tummy through to back without any let up at all I'd ask my doctor. Try changing positions more often if you're sitting or laying down. Sometimes this helps. Some find heating pads a godsend. Crummy isn't it? B :smitten:

Most likely, that's your Psoas muscles, Matty.

It wraps around from your lower spine, over your hips and down front both sides of your abdomen. Yoga people associate it with fight or flight.

Worth googling to gather your own info.

Very common that it is affected by anxiety, tension and fight or flight.

:)

GABA receptors is almost found in the whole body. In fat, many receptors in your stomach and, intestines, eyes

bone, brain, muscles, heart etc.  I have my worst pain in my chest. In my sternum and ribs to the left side. I got something called the tietze syndrome. My doc said it is benzo caused.

Like cramp in my abdominal area, sometimes I cant sit I need to lay down because it hurts so much. I got IBS too so I got cramps in my intestines almost every day. Found out I can't drink milk with lactose.

Back pain like kidney/muscle pain.. in time with increased sxs...

Different from my spinal or nerve pain...

Worse in early morning after long lay down, goes quick when up and sitting...

Warmth is good...

I use heating pads and even the one you can put in the freezer. Warm bath. Sauna 😁

My entire back is pretty horrid, completely covered with muscle knots. My lower back has been worse lately as I've gone through my last few cuts. I'm using turmeric and cinnamon tea, heat, Epsom salt baths and massage.

Matty, have you been anxious, nervous or a little "down"?  I like FizzleWitch's explanation.  Right after the holidays I got a bit depressed and had ruminating thoughts.  Unfortunately, the nausea, muscle twitching/pain and hot flashes occurred when I felt bad for about a week.....  Fizzle is right on - at least from my perspective with the anxiety.

I've brought out the "calming/relaxing" essential oil blend and will be using that a few times a day.  Hopefully it will calm down the nervous system. It's hard not to get concerned with withdrawal symptoms but as they say "practice makes perfect" so just try to dismiss the symptoms.  I know you will be OK soon.

If you haven't seen "Parker's" page, take a look.  It's beyond good.
