I was prescribed Lorazipam first 20 years ago  for depression, and it did help me. i took it for about 8 months.  I stopped taking  it and suffered horrible  issues. One I remember as  a vice grip hold on my head feeling that I put off to well its just me. They lasted for over a year, but I remember the worst was only 4 or 5 months (pure hell), but these symptoms became tolerable and after a year just stopped.  I never once attributed what I dealt with to a prescription drug my Doctor gave me.

A few years back my tinnitus got pretty bad,  and I was again prescribed lorazipam.  How i wish i had not began this drug for a second time. the relief from my tinnitus gradually was reduced.  While I was prescribed  to take 1 mg of lorazapam 3 times a day. I only took it one time a day, at night time.  over the years I increased my dosage  to 2 pills one time a day,  still remaining under my 3 pills a day prescribed.  for a few years now i have become unable to function during the day  putting off my symptoms as a part of my diabetes.

In a mix up of my prescriptions  I went without this drug for 4 days. It was evil. a lot like I felt for that year but pretty much magnified a whole lot.  When I took a pill and my symptoms disappeared. I then was able to put the 2 together and that's why I am here.  I am very afraid of going thru  this, but more afraid of not.  I want to be whole again.

Hi Hopefulllady.  Welcome to BenzoBuddies.

I'm sorry this is happening to you again.  A slow taper should help keep the withdrawal symptoms in check, and there are a few ways of doing this.  I'll give you a link to the Substitution board to ask about switching over to Valium/Diazepam, as well as links to Titration and our General Taper boards.

Go to the top of the page and select Profile, then choose Forum Profile, insert drug history/timelines into the text box and click Change Profile.

When you have a chance, I highly recommend that you take a look at The Ashton Manual, which is an authoritative source on what to expect during withdrawal and recovery, authored by Dr. C. Heather Ashton, who is an expert in the field. It provides a great deal of information that can be very reassuring during any stage of this process, including a list of common symptoms with helpful explanations on the reasons for their existence.

Thank you Challis. I am even more hopeful that my request was approved so quickly.  I am so afraid because of my age now and with diabetes. and the number of years prescribed, How much of my life will I get back. I miss the things i used to do . I am a hermit now.  I guess time will tell right. anyway thank you

Hello from me as well,

I believe it is never too late to take steps that will help our general health and wellbeing. I was 60 when I started my taper and although my taper was rough and my recovery took longer then I wished, I'm so glad I persevered.  Being benzo free and healed is wonderful.

I also experienced a cold turkey, suggested by my doctor for a medical test.  I know just how awful it can be.  Read the links that Challis gave you. You'll find a plan that works for you and we'll support you all the way to your benzo freedom.

Hi Hopefullady...

There's no need to be afraid. It's not easy - but you'll find plenty of help here.

I'm 62 and (after 38 years of Benzos) I'm almost five months off and the signs grow more encouraging all the time.

Chin up & all the very best!

I so want to thank everyone for the encouragement. I am trying to make that signature. I have my PW now, but it hurts my head to try to remember the details. I wrote out a detail of my life the last 20 years. i am hoping one of the admins will help me, but if they can not i will try my best to do it myself as this seems important. Still trying to navigate this forum.  how can i put up a picture of my millie moo ( a chinese crested) for a profile pic?
