Is Motrin ok to take ?

[Tr...]

I don't think Motrin ever hurt anybody. I take it when I have a headache or something. it is an anti-inflammatory.

Thanks david. I'm so terrified of all drugs now. My ekg and chest X-ray came normal but the heart pain still so bad . So Motrin is better than Tylenol . What do you think about aleve ?

Tracy, I'm glad everything came back normal. I was reading something the other day when I was having the same heart feelings, and the article I read talked about the peck muscles( I believe they are called) that sit in front of the heart, is actually what could be hurting, tightening  up or twitching, but because its so close to the heart, it feels like the heart. the worry from the sensations then cause worry and anxiety, causing the heart then to beat faster. I'm not sure in your case if that's the issue, but after taking a little magnesium, I didn't feel the pain or the tightness in my chest anymore. I also had blood test ran, and had my heart looked at, and it was normal. Trying to relax seems to be the best way to get rid of the pain, along with the Aleve maybe.

I think ibuprofen which is what Motrin is--is really good---My doctor who knows how to treat people in withdrawal from benzo drugs--uses it and other anti-imflammatory drugs--like antihistamines---I am taking Unisom for sleep and he approves of that and when I also take ibuprofen it helps me sleep better and also helps to control anxiety---it works for me and I am sensitive to almost everything in the universe---it is one thing I can take and be okay---ask your doctor because I am not one--but I know what has helped me

Motrin is a brand name for ibuprofen, and ibuprofen is generally safe.  I took it during withdrawal and still take it for body aches and pains.

Definetly ibuprofen was one thing I could rely on med wise that helped a lot. The awful head pressure would get to me so bad sometimes. I don't take it very often though. I may take some tonight as my head kind of hurts.

You may want to look up costicondritis. It's an inflimation of the connective tissue in the ribs. Nothing scary medically to worry about. It's just uncomfortable. People have it in different places. My sister has it bad on her ribs. Mine is just over my heart. It's one of the big things that led me to anxiety and then the benzos followed. I thought I was having a heart attack and went to the ER. My sister was an ICU nurse for a long time and she said s huge amount of people come in to the ER with chest pain and it usually ends up being costicondritis. So it's weird that it isn't more widely known. Of course it's a good thing to have checked out it you have any fears that it's something else.

Ibuprofen is an N.S.A.I.D (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory) Other NSAIDS in the united states are:

celecoxib (Celebrex)

diclofenac (Cambia, Cataflam, Voltaren-XR, Zipsor, Zorvolex)

diflunisal (Dolobid - discontinued brand)

etodolac (Lodine - discontinued brand)

ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil)

indomethacin (Indocin)

ketoprofen (Active-Ketoprofen [Orudis - discontinued brand])

ketorolac (Toradol - discontinued brand)

nabumetone (Relafen - discontinued brand)

naproxen (Aleve, Anaprox, Naprelan, Naprosyn)

oxaprozin (Daypro)

piroxicam (Feldene)

salsalate (Disalsate [Amigesic - discontinued brand])

sulindac (Clinoril - discontinued brand)

tolmetin (Tolectin - discontinued brand)

I took huge doses of ibuprofen and Naproxen  for various inflammation issues/pain for years--huge 600 or 800 mg pills several times a day off and on for over a decade prescribed to me by various doctors. I ended up having an ambulance take me from my Dr.'s office to the ER one day because my blood pressure was through the roof. I never had blood pressure problems before. My Dr accused me of eating too many hot dogs or deli meats(which i didn't and rarely do) and said too much salt is bad. THAT's when i found out high blood pressure can be a side effect from NSAIDS.  The hospital doctor said I'd developed an allergy, but I've found that NSAIDS can increase your blood pressure, especially if you already have high blood pressure issues. I didn't before but thanks to NSAIDS i do now. I cant take any NSAIDs anymore, because when i even take one, my blood pressure rises to the point of discomfort. They can also cause kidney damage/failure, so if you have kidney issues you might want to think twice.

Tylenol(acetaminophen) if over-used can cause liver damage/failure.

I don't want to scare anyone, but it's best to be careful and don't over-do it. If you're already dealing with hypertension/high blood pressure, ask your doctor first.

Very good points, BG....in an attempt to relieve chronic pain issues I reluctantly tried Celebrex (no relief from the other NSAIDS) and felt strange on day 2....my BP was 180/118...that ended that!

Another bad thing about NSAIDS is that they cause heart damage!  Crazy!
