Hi! I joined this site because i've been on benzos daily since the 27th of september (around 3.5 months) and really want to get off. I attend a rigorous college, have lots of stress, and i'm sick and tired of popping pills to deal with it. Was initially on Klonopin, anywhere from .5-3 mg a day, usually averaging 1.5 mg. I then switched to valium on the 5th of november, 30 mg daily. It is now Jan 11, and i'm at 27mg diaz a day. I've been tapering off by a milligram a week, and could really use some advice from this community, as i've only ever heard stellar things about it.

Welcome to Benzo Buddies! Congratulations on deciding to come off benzos, you are quite right. It is unpleasant to be tethered to a prescription bottle.  In the end, it is much better to face our challenges and find ways to deal with them without drugs that can cause dependency.

 

Many people can taper off with few serious withdrawal effects. A slow taper is recommended to minimize these effects. Generally a reduction of no more than 5-10% every 10-14 days is suggested. I'll give you a link to the General Taper Plans for additional information.

 

I'll also give you a link to the Ashton Manual, it is an excellent resource about these types of drugs and how to withdraw. It was written by Dr. Heather Ashton, an expert in the field.
