I have no idea what to do i have tried meditation breathing melatonin hot baths recommended foods.antihistamines make me hyper and crazy. I feel like i might need medical intervention but scared what they will give me. What is safe to try in WD besides what I mentioned? What about sedative SSRIs?

I'm sorry to hear about your sleep issues. I don't know of any SSRI meds that are sedating, but the older TCAs can be. Have you tried Trazodone?  I'm going through insomnia currently and it gives me some relief at 100mg.

Seroquel is hit and miss.  Seems like it makes me tired but wont actually put me to sleep so I still use some Ambien the combo usually helps me get 6-7 hours.

The only thing an in house medical intervention is going to do is give you meds.  If you do not want that then best try not to go.

I went through a similar situation without resorting to prescription meds. It was hard, but things slowly turned around. If you are living in America and can apply for Family Medical Leave Act protection, you can perhaps take off time from work until things get better. I was able to take 2 months off. That really helped me.

Mirtazapine (Remeron) caused disastrous effects on my life, do some research on it or read my other posts. I think it's one of the worst drugs available.

Paroxetine (Paxil) worked very well for my anxiety and made me sleep. It eventually pooped out (after 13 years) but it really changed my life for the better while it worked. I'd take it at dinner time and a few hours later I'd sleep like a baby. However, in a lot of reports I've read people have complained it made their insomnia worse. We all react differently to psych meds it seems.

Trazodone worked well for me for insomnia. It caused headaches the first few days and made me groggy/foggy during the day, but I was still functional. Withdrawal was almost non-existent for me when I discontinued.

The reason why you're awake is because something is consciously on your mind.

It could (and in my case) be as simple as being "aware" you are trying to sleep, that in itself can keep you awake.

Imagine a baby falling asleep, it is natural you can see their head bobbing trying to stay awake

Theirs nothing holding the baby back, as we age, and develop our brains we develop a very active MIND

It's this active mind that is keeping you awake.

Do you have an anxiety because I think that would probably be the cause

Welcome to My world ! Insomnia sucks no matter what the cause . Mine is life long major depressive disorder and yes its a challenge finding something that works. Its also true that We are all different, I tried the so called sedating SNRIs but remember what the N stands for , it can rev You up as it does Me so that one is out at least for myself.

Melatonin is hit and miss. Drug withdrawal especially from a Benzo is insomnia city by itself. I sleep a few hours one night up the next. You could see a sleep doc . Here in the USA shrinks only have one answer to everything and that is take another pill or try this and try that. Most are clueless when it comes to tapering off a med never mind sleep.
