Anxiety and paranoia

Recommended Posts

So, this is really the first time i post something other than my introduction, but my situation is as follows:

I'm currently on slow taper plan (started from 110 mg diazepam), now down to 30 mg a day. Everything has gone pretty smoothly up to this point. Since the drop from 35 to 30 (doctor's taper regimen) my anxiety has gone through the roof. Combined with nightmares, this situation is kind of intollerable.

I don't want to take extra medication, but I can't seem to find any relief from anywhere. And I have to work 8 hours a day during the W/D - feeling pretty paranoid about my co-workers.

My questions are as follow: is this a sort of threshold from where everything will only get worse  until I get rid of the medication completely, or is this a temporary phase in my recovery? Also, any tips for getting rid of the paranoia is really appreciated - the anxiety is something I can at least handle a bit...

In my experience, paranoia is often something that is latent in some folks' personalities, but comes to the surface when they are under extreme stress.  Just knowing and recognising that you are having paranoid thoughts about your colleagues may help you to deal with it.  I would be cautious about sharing this with them unless you really, really trust them, as it might make a lot of people very wary of you.

Most everyone hits a point in w'd where it all becomes intolerable, but try and stick with it.  A lot of doctors want people to taper faster than is comfortable - I would get advice from others on here about whether you are going too fast or not.  My own w'd took years!

Thank you for your support. Really can't talk about the paranoia at work (I run my own company). Actually, now that you mentioned it, I'm sort of interested how other people have been able to work while tapering? My job requires a lot of thinking and writing etc. so this kind of affects my output somewhat.
