Hi there, looking for support, positivity, and compassion

Hi there I never thought that I would join a forum but I am a little worried I am losing my mind during this withdrawl process, being a drama queen and seriously bothering my fiance and doctor with my constant need for reassurance, and I long to connect with others who are going through this as well who understand. I have been on klonopin for 2 years, I am 24 years old, I started at 3 mg once a day, and am now down to 1.25 mg. I just tapered down to 1 mg and am really feeling this cut. It's been about a week but it feels like an eternity and I am so scared. I run my own business and can luckily get away with working at home but I really loved finding the positive recovery stories on here because I can't mentally deal with the negative ones that you find on other sites. I know that klonopin does not define me but right now I feel like it has a vice grip on my life and won't let go, I just want to feel free of medication and get my energy and life back.

Welcome to the forum!  We're glad to have you as a new member.

You'll find plenty of information and support here.  Our members have gone through all aspects of withdrawal, and you're likely to see  people who understand what you're going through and can tell you what has worked for them.  For those who are currently tapering, we suggest reducing no faster than 5-10% every 10-14 days, and some taper even slower than that.  One exception: very short-term users of a few weeks or less may be able to taper faster than that.  Having some withdrawal symptoms is normal, especially near the end of a taper and for a month or so after discontinuing the medication.  The most common symptoms are anxiety and insomnia, but these are temporary and will go away in time.

Here are a few links you may find useful:

Withdrawal Support Board

The Ashton Manual is an authoritative source on what to expect in withdrawal and recovery.  Dr. Ashton is an expert in the field.  She describes and explains withdrawal symptoms in Chapter III, and there is also a section with withdrawal/taper schedules.

Please take the time to Create a Signature.  This will allow others to see where you are in the process so they can better support you.

Again, welcome!

Thank you so much for the kind words of supporting, this is a scary process I feel like because of the unknown however I think the scariest part is the not knowing. However we will get through this and I can see the light in brief periods everyday where I feel better then I have since I started taking this medication.

We WILL get through this. I can see those little glimmers of future light also. It seems to be a slow process, but it will pass before you know it. You are so young, you have so much living to do yet. This will pass and you will be better than ever for having gone through it.

Hey Song Bird!

I took Klonopin for two years (xanax for many before that). I C/T'd July 2015.

C/T was a bad idea! I took short course of xanax until July 2016.. which really messed it up.

It was scary!

However, I am finally feeling a lot better as of *right* now.

24 is so young! I am 34. When I was going through the worst of it I kept thinking .. "omg I'm so old and my life is over, I ruined it all!" but now I don't feel that way, I feel young again. So you being 24, keep faith that you are so young and you will heal and you have your whole life ahead of you feeling great.

Stay strong, stay on this message board, keep as healthy as you can, eat great and exercise and drink tons of water (exercise is very important) look for answer to any of your questions, be VERY EASY on yourself, and it will all work out!

<3  :)
