Ambien OCD help!

Hello Daileon2,

Welcome to Benzo Buddies!  Sadly, many in the medical field do not recognize withdrawal from drugs like Ambien.  You have come to the right place for information and support. We understand what you are feeling and can share our experience and knowledge with you.

Are you presently off Ambien?

Ambien, while not technically a benzo, does impact the same receptors in the brain and can cause dependency.  A slow taper can help minimize withdrawal symptoms. Generally, a reduction of no more than 5-10% every 10-14 days is suggested. I'll give you a link to the General Taper Plans for additional information.

I'll also give you a link to the Ashton Manual, it is an excellent resource about these types of drugs and how to withdraw. It was written by Dr. Heather Ashton, an expert in the field. The manual does also discuss Z drugs, such as Ambien.

Let us know how we can help and if you provide more information about your personal situation we can better address your issues.

Please do ask questions, we're here to help.

I started abusing ambien and would run out a 30 day supply in 6 days.

That's a lot of Ambien in 6 days.  I hope you have decided to stop using ambien in this manner.  How long have you been off ambien now?

Three days

You are in the acute phase right now and yes, the symptoms can be very intense. This would be especially true if you were abusing Ambien and taking huge doses.

Your choices would be: 1. To ride it out and know that things will ease up in time or 2. See your doctor, own up to the situation, and ask for a prescription so you can do a sensible slow taper.

I told my doctor and was told I'm having rebound anxiety and depression. She ripped me off Ambien and put me on Seroquel and Brintellix.

Neither of these drugs will "cure" withdrawal from ambien, only time will do that.

I hope that others who have more experience with Ambien will weigh in. You might try posting on the Cold Turkey, Detox and Rapid Withdrawal Board. I'll give you the link for this board:

Hello and welcome, I've been using ambien too, and I'm sure you will get a lot of help in here... you must not be afraid of asking questions on several groups, ask whatever's on your mind and some buddies will for sure come and give supporters🎈

You sure used a lot of ambien, it's gonna be a rough ride, but you will heal again.

You might want to look into this group too, its for ambien users:
