Anyone just eat whatever they like?

I've been cutting out caffeine, sugar and this and that, I kinda have developed a little food anxiety...I've always been healthy and never been into much sugar, and mostly followed my body's cravings for like fish one day, walnuts etc. now I'm so scared of eating almost anything. In the past week I had an encredible urge for honey, I always ate honey before, but I don't dare. I do eat fruits, but I think, don't the body need a little bit of sugar to be energized, I'm referring to my complete lack of energy and fatigue during this period.

Carbs don't provide energy--that is a myth. Your body can make "energy" out of whatever you eat--fat, protein and carbs.

That said, I don't think a bit of honey or fruit is terrible at all. It's great that you can listen to your body for guidance, I truly think that is the way we were meant to function (like animals do!) and it is only all the processed food that messes us up. Fruit and honey have been eaten by humans for thousands if not milliions of years, totally field tested!

I used to eat a fair amount of sugar and other crap, lots of carbs. Since I really started turning my diet around about 3 years ago, I no longer have depression and feel much healthier, my energy level is much more even. So I do think it makes a difference what we eat. Certainly I think there will be outliers who can live on any old crap and do okay, but for the vast majority of us (and especially those of us with compromised systems), eating right can only make things better.

Thanks, I've always been healthy, only drinking water, never soda or juice...but I'm just so tired of going around and think food all the time, can I eat that or that. I just want to eat my youghurt with fruit and honey, and maybe a small homemade cookie here and there. The other day I read someone said salmon raved up her w/d.... and it freaked me out, I love salmon.... I'm just so tiiiired of eating organic chicken and chicken and not live like normal  :tickedoff::sick:

I read these boards right before I jumped and was scared by all the food problems people reported. I decided to cut back on everything just in case. Dropped drinking tea, avoided sugar etc as much as possible. After a month or so I started treating myself to things because life was so bad as it was I needed to feel more normal again and didn't notice any problems at all. I started to eat whatever I wanted again slowly, though I still haven't tried caffeine again yet. I got myself a decaf version of my tea and it's fine, so I will hold off until I'm fully recovered on that.

I'm currently struggling to eat at all. I know it's probably contributing to my total lack of energy, but I just have no desire to eat at all. All the foods I enjoyed before either make me feel sick now, or just seem disgusting to me. I don't eat junk or loads of sugar, never have, but eating anything is just a draining chore now.  :-\

Sounds like your diet is pretty good. There's a simple solution--maybe not read certain stuff? or take it with a grain of salt? (ha bad pun). Live well and don't fret about it too much!

The only problem I have is now certain foods give me reflux now.  So I have to watch sugars, refined carbs, and acid foods now.  But I've never had food rev symptoms and I eat all kinds of things!

I have seen so many different theories and ideas about this or that thing causes a wave and don't do it, and then other people say they have no problem with the exact same thing (foods, drinks, supplements, alcohol).

My belief and personal experience now at about 31 months is everyone is a bit different and will respond in different ways to the same thing and we will respond to that same thing differently at other points in our recovery.

I try to eat fairly healthy, but I will still eat some sugar here and there. I do drink a beer or two here and there.

But I know if I eat too much of anything at one time it makes my heart jump around and wears me out.

And I also drink coffee. I don't believe anything prevents us from healing. Some things may make us feel bad but I don't believe in something causing healing to be suspended. I realize there are people in these forums that probably believe the opposite.

I'm not giving up my coffee and a beer, though. Not for some indeterminate time of years into the future. I refuse to stop living just for the possibility of 'living'.

I mean, I feel like hell most of the time anyway, so I don't know if it's the benzos, sugar, beer, coffee, stress, me getting older, or what.

Before the benzo mess I could eat anything, and I would eat anything. But during recovery I was sensitive to almost everything. So I essentially had a limited diet of salads, smoothies and fruit. After I was healed I could eat anything again, but I didn't want to. I liked my new diet and I felt better than ever. I did have alot of cravings for a long time, but they all went away. I do put honey in my tea now, just a bit. And I do eat chocolate, I can't help myself. I love that stuff. But it's dark chocolate so it's not that bad. And yes, the body needs sugar. But you can make sure it's a good kind of sugar. The type you get from fruits and berries is good. Also honey is not that bad.

I did exactly the same and nearly starved myself, and I do think it made my wave so much worse.

From today I'll eat like I used too, I'm in wave anyway

That's great Elbette . I do it in the morning and at night( breathing technique) and sometimes during the day when I need to. in fact sometimes I have become that relaxed I have actually fallen asleep afterwards without realising lol. Like everything else the more you practice the easier it becomes!       :smitten:

I can eat anything but do try to eat a fairly healthy diet.

.

I do not have any adverse reactions to food but many folk do.

My sxs fluctuate a lot, it is just what happens in withdrawal.

Relax about food if you do not have reactions to it.

I did have a few months of craving carbs and had to eat them every 2 hours.  It passed.

Everyone is different.  I actually feel worse if I don't eat sugar.  I went through a 3 week period where I was eating mostly protein (Nuts, grilled chicken, eggs, etc).  When I got annoyed that I didn't feel any better, I went back to my "old" way of eating (I am a sugar hound), I felt incredible better.  For most people it is the opposite, where sugar makes everything worse.  I know make sure I eat some type of carb when I eat grilled chicken or eggs to help balance it out.

I can't find the article, but I saw one a few weeks ago on a paleo page which stated that is some cases, high protein and low carb diets actually made glutamate and anxiety worse for some individuals.
