Are you sure Trazadone is ok when coming off Benzos?

I've seen a lot of people are using Teazadone to help with insomnia and wanted to confirm if this is ok?  I don't want this to setback my recovery but I need to sleep. I have the 50mg pills but I'm afraid to take it if it's going to delay recovery.

Can someone smarter than me comment?

It has set me back. Antidepressants can cause similar withdrawal patterns and according to dr Breggin cause chronic brain impairement (you can read this in his book psychiatric drug withdrawal for therapists , prescribers, patients and their family)

If i would go back in time i would have sit it out. It will give you the best chances of healing.

I wouldn't claim to be smarter than anyone, but all I can say is I used Trazadone 50mg to 100 mg/night during my taper, and I went off the Trazadone with no problem after I was healed. I don't think it was of enormous help, but I think it improved my sleep somewhat, and did no harm.

I think you kind of have to weigh the pros and cons, as you can see the answer is not clear-cut. If you have unbearable insomnia, and have tried everything--including cleaning up your diet and sleep habits, not popping ANY pills, and working on your attitude towards insomnia--then I don't think it is terrible to take a short course of a drug such as this to get some relief.

If you don't use it for too long (like months, not YEARS), withdrawal should not be terrible. Eventually you'll have to deal with sleep without "help", so your brain can truly reset and heal.

I've used Trazadone on and off during my taper, but it hasn't helped much (nor has it hurt any). This shouldn't really be a surprise as trazadone was the last drug i tried for insomnia before being prescribed k (ambien, sonata, trazadone). Trazadone doesnt make me sleepy it makes me groggy and agitated unfortunately, much like antihistamines.

I am extremely surprised I have had only a handful of nights during my taper where I couldnt fall asleep (knock on wood) as I was prescribed k as a sleep aid in the first place. Other symptoms, but I can usually fall asleep fairly decently. I usually wake up 4-5 times a night, but I am still getting sleep thank god. I also find i wake up much earlier than normal (4-5 am). I used to love sleeping in and taking naps and i cannot do either on most days I am feeling other symptoms. When i have windows though.

I use melatonin to help sleep at night and for some reason this works for me where other, stronger aids have not helped. I hope you find your rest soon!
