Forced to get off of Klonopin...

But thanks be to God, it is for the best that I have been!

A short version of my story: This is my second time on benzos. This time was only for one year. I moved to Saudi Arabia recently and learned that having them prescribed here is like pulling teeth. I managed to get a 30 day supply of my normal dose and was told to taper with those. And after 1.5 months of a taper, I took my last dose four days ago. I've joined to seek advice and support on this journey to freedom!

Hello LegitNiqabi,

Welcome to Benzo Buddies! I'm sorry you were forced by circumstances to do a rapid taper off benzos.  What benzo were you taking and at what dose?

Actually, these types of drugs and intended for short time use only, say 2-3 weeks. After that dependency can develop as well as other issues such as tolerance.  In the end, the effectiveness of these drugs tends to fade requiring larger and larger doses.

How are you feeling now?  At this point you are in the acute phase of withdrawal where the symptoms can be the strongest. However, not everyone will suffer serious effects, it depends on the genetics of the person and how they process medications.

You are now benzo free and the healing can start.  Any effects you feel are temporary and will ease up with time.

I'll give you a link to the Ashton Manual, it is an excellent resource about these types of drugs and how to withdraw. It was written by Dr. Heather Ashton, an expert in the field. Although it discusses tapering, it also gives a lot of good information on the withdrawal process in general.

I'll also give you a link to the Post Withdrawal Recovery Board where you can post and receive feedback from members.

We're happy to support you as you recover from benzo use.  In my opinion it is well worth the effort to be benzo free and not tethered to a medication any more.  Please ask questions, we're here to help.
