question about anti depressants

If you're not depressed and you take an antidepressant for sleep will it affect your brain chemistry and make you feel worse emotionally?

Very hard to say seeing that every person reacts different to AD's. I used mirtazapine for sleep but got fog minded from it (although I'm 2 weeks without now and don't sleep anymore so going back on tomorrow). Others don't have side effects at all. Take care

I can't say whether or not it will make you feel worse emotionally, but it's sure as shit going to affect your brain chemistry, and I would definitely not do it!!!

I take OTC zzzquils to help me sleep, and would never take any more of this crap the doctors are peddling.. I've had a hell of a time dealing with coming off of risperdal, which is an anti-psychotic I was given a few years ago, that was "positioned" to me as a "mood stabilizer".. what a load of shit!  The doctor should have said, try some hard exercise!

So many possible side effects from anti-depressants. One of them includes fatigue. I used to have to take naps and would feel low energy a lot of the time. There has to be a better way to get to sleep.

Different types of antidepressants produce different side effects from one individual to the next. The ssri and SNRIs can be quite stimulating in withdrawal especially to be avoided if in cold turkey. Mirtazipene us a tetracyclic si more related to the tricyclic. They do affect brain chemistry but if tokerated subtheraoeutic doses can help with sleep if used at night but I would keep the dose the same whilst tapering a Benzo then taper off the ad.

I lost a lot of my emotional life on mirtazapine. It gave me insomnia which led me to benzo's.

In my opinion one should not take another drug which disturbes your chemistry during wd. You will have another taper after benzo wd and prolong your suffering.

I thought it would.  And since I'm not struggling with much depression,  I don't think a "major antidepressant" would help any.  But the problem is over the counter sleep aides and antihistamine don't help me sleep at all.

I also use mirtazapine to sleep. I do suffer I think from mild depression; I don't know if it has helped with that or not honestly. I am not at an "antidepressant" therapeutic dose. It does help with anxiety at my 15 mg.

While I would have preferred not to add another med, I had to if I wanted to keep my job and any semblance of a normal life. This does it.

Does it affect brain chemistry? Of course. But not sleeping for days was not something I personally can handle.

Finally someone who gets it (and of course I won't touch SSRI's)
