Waking after an hour

[Da...]

Recommended Posts

I was having insomnia where I'd wake up after a few hours and be panicking for a few hours before I fell back asleep.  I took melatonin and was doing better but it's coming back. Last night we went to bed  around 10:30 and I woke up at midnight and panicked for the rest of the night.

Is there anything I can do to sleep better? Or to fall back to sleep quickly without the panick setting in?its instant panic - I'm not able to stop it before it happens. Of course I'm already freaking out about tonight's sleep!

I know the night time panic/anxiety all too well.

We all probably are on the same page about this, but worry/anxiety about it can exacerbate the cycle and make the mind more hyperaroused. Everyone seems to think "the key" is to not care, or to let go of the control around sleep. I am preaching this but of course I struggle with it too, still!

And the reason for the panic/anxiety is so different for everyone, so it's hard to say what could help. I think noticing that there is a process to this, and being willing to accept it and be okay with any outcome can he helpful in lessoning the grip on trying to control something we can't really control. I think once we can let go of our fear about this, it can get easier.. but it does take time.

Also there's obviously physiological reasons for this too - like cortisol and glutamate - that are in the picture. It's usually very complex for all of us. Just know you are not alone!

I feel for you - and have similar issues with sleep - i'm learning to panic less and really accept whatever the night brings but it is very hard i know.. time, patience and acceptance is the key.. (and getting off the meds of course)..

Dad24 - i think teal is right - letting go of the anxiety/worry/obsessing about sleep is the key, it takes time to develop this attitude and then a while to get results but it has worked for many. you might want to check Dr Guy Meadows book "The sleep book" - he has a website also..

luv and hugs from down under  :smitten:

I get an hour's sleep and then awake.. am soo tired, just like everyone else but it seems like my body has forgotten how to go to sleep .. recently more panic attacks and palpitations. It's been worse since under a mg.. I do take quarter of a zopiclaine and refuse to take any more. It doesn't seem to do much after that first hour ! I will start that withdrawal once the Ativan is done with ...

On and on and on ....
