I joined this to help my my husband and myself to understand what he is going through.  He was taken off xanax by a hospital almost 6 month ago after being on them for 8 years. He was prescribed 6mg a day by his family dr. It has been a on going nightmare.

Although detoxing in a hospital setting might work well for other drugs, it doesn't for benzodiazepines, especially for what a high dose you husband was on. Symptoms as a result of stopping too quickly can be severe and or prolonged.
