Recovery is a big fat lie

I had another zero night again last night.  I have made zero progress in 5 months.  Time to consider reinstating and a long slow taper 3 hours of sleep on the shit is better than zero.  I can't take this anymore.  Need to find a Dr to work with.  Any ideas?

Recovery can take a lot more than 4-5 months my friend.........a lot more. I understand your frustration though. Reinstating at his stage would not be a good decision IMO.

Recovery is not the big fat lie.  The really big fat lie is that benzos can in any way help anything or make anything better in the long run.  We all find ourselves here because of that big fat honking lie.

The truth is that benzos can make us very very ill sooner or later.  The truth is that we eventually hit tolerance and have to escalate the doses or come off.  The truth is that there is a whole lot of pain and misery the further down that road we go.  The truth is, that we can get off and recover afterwards.  The truth is that reinstatement may or may not be helpful and it might just add immeasurably to the misery you are already going through.  The truth is, that the process takes longer than any of us would like.  But recovery does happen over time once off the poison.  TRUTH.

I'm sorry you find yourself in this situation and are suffering Theway.  You are early into the recovery process.  I was pretty miserable for 4-5 months, but after that I turned the corner and started a slow and steady recovery.  I am now at 17 months off and am about 75% there.  I have great swaths of good days mixed in with some return of symptoms, but mostly I am functional, seeing a return of my quality of life, and getting on with things.  You will get there too!  Sending you all the positive energy I can muster, energy for hope and healing and strength to hang on for the journey.

Trazodone 100mg will put you out for at least 8 hours. In a recent study that I read, it aids and assists in stage 4 and 5 sleep, both of which are not in the cards while on benzos. Just this week I went three days in row without sleep until I was prescribed the Trazodone.

You've already reinstated and it didn't work for you, so I'm not sure if it'll work this time round. 5 months is still early out. Recovery can take 18-24 months. I know it sucks, I'm a fellow short termer (even shorter than you and still in withdrawal too) and my heart really goes out to you.

I know other members suggested Seroquel and Trazodone for sleep, I've tried all those, but I knew in my heart if I continued taking them they'll have a laundry list of side effects, and I'll have to do another withdrawal again. Insomnia is extremely common, and if you'd built a tolerance so quickly to benzos, I think it's a sign that your body doesn't like it. If you take them again, it could result in further kindling, and you'll have more symptoms than insomnia. Of course it's your own choice, but you can do a search on the forums for the experiences of others who've reinstated.

Honestly, if you had other symptoms that went away, it's an extremely good sign that you will heal completely. Hang in there, and stay clean.

I agree.. You hit tolerance so fast.  I think reinstatement could possibly be very punishing to you.  I personally would take something else for sleep SHORT TERM so I could break the insomnia cycle though. Perspective always improves with sleep.
