End of clonazepam taper? When to jump

[fr...]

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone had any advice for the end of a clonazepam taper. Over the last year i have been coming off of 2mg daily (1mg am/1mg pm). My earlier cuts were not done as carefully as they probably should have been, and i certainly went a bit faster than i should have at points. About a month ago I was down to .25 daily (.125 am/.125pm) and i felt i was able to catch my breath for long enough to drop down again. I did about 2 weeks at 0.0625 on the same schedule (am/pm) before eliminating the evening dose, brining me down to .0625 once a day. This last drop has been absolutely excruciating. I won't focus too much on the symptoms here but i was wondering if anyone has gone from a 2x daily dose to once a day and, if so, did this make much of a difference?

This is by far the worst withdrawal i have experienced so far, i am crawling out of my skin and sometimes i feel like im barely clinging to my sanity. I would have thought that, seeing as i am now at such a low dose, the WD wouldn't be so severe but maybe i should split this dose into an AM and PM dose as well?

Also, does anyone have any suggestions for when to jump off entirely? Im probably about as low as i can go with the dosage now, right?

PS: I am new to this so I'm sorry that my post isn't as well organized as it might be. I'll try to improve with practice. Thanks  :)

I am no expert and I too have been questioning this.  I was at .25 mg Klonapen/Clonazepam daily and thought it was low enough so that I would not notice a whopping 33% cut and also a reduction from three a day to two a day.  I was wrong.  I looked through the Klonapen support group numbers and saw how people were tapering more slowly and carefully at the end than I was imagining doing.  So I designed a plan to reduce 5% at a time indefinitely.

My husband helps me weigh and cut my pills which helps me a lot.  I tried a liquid thing but I did not like it.  So hopefully with the dry cuts and the scale we can taper the way I need to do it.

I think the hardest thing for me to grasp was that if I gave someone my full daily dose right now, he or she would probably not even notice it, yet if I change my daily dose more than 5% at a time I wind up freaking out.
