Alone and withdrawn

I have been taking 1.5 mg for 5 years. I have gone cold turkey. But only because I ran out of my script. And I am trying not to refill it. It is to the point where I search floors and cabinets over and over to see if one is left over somewhere. I can't sleep. I am a zombie. I also suffer from epilepsy.

Hello GageAJ14,

Welcome to Benzo Buddies!  Since you have an existing epilepsy condition it is important to let your doctor know about the abrupt cessation of the benzo.  When one stops cold turkey, there is a small risk of seizure. What benzo have you been taking for the past 5 years?

For someone who has taken benzos as long as yourself and additionally having another medical condition, a slow taper is highly recommended.  I know you don't wish to take the benzo again, but if it were me I would contact the doctor and see if you can get a script, stabilize and learn how to implement a slow and controlled taper.

In general, a reduction of no more than 5-10% every 10-14 days is suggested.  I'll give you a link to the General Taper Plans for additional information.

I'll also give you a link to the Ashton Manual, it is an excellent resource about these types of drugs and how to withdraw. It was written by Dr. Heather Ashton, an expert in the field.

What you are feeling is very common for benzo withdrawal and can be stronger when stopping cold turkey. While temporary, it can take time for the symptoms to ease up.  We understand what you are going through and will support you no matter what you decide.  Please do ask questions, we're here to help.
