Searching for backup pharmacy

Recommended Posts

I get my generic brand clonazapam prescription filled at Costco (in the U.S.) The brand is called "Northstar".

Costco has a habit of changing brands every so often. Northstar is what I'm tapering on. Tried a different brand. Severe symptoms. I don't ever want to do that again!

I can't find another pharmacy that carries Northstar brand k.

Has anyone ever even heard of this brand and if so any ideas who carries it?

I would like a backup pharmacy to go to if Costco switches again. If they do I'll get a different pharmacy that carries a common brand all the time and just bite the bullet. Sure don't want to though.

Didn't know for sure where to post this question. Move accordingly. Thanks all. GC

I have not heard of it, but the same thing happened to me, I finally got a hold of a small "Mom and Pop" pharmacy and asked if they could order the benzo with the manufaturers name, they could ans that is where I got my medication from, I had to turn in my pills and have the doctor write a new prescription. He also put the manufacturer's name in the prescription.

Most major pharmacies have little or no control over the brands they recieve.  Even many local pharmacies are limited by what their distribution network provides.

I went through a similar problem with Remeron.  I learned that the problem was not that the new brand wasn't as good, it was just that it was different.  I always adjusted to the new brands, but was miserable for a week or so after each change.  I finally went to the local Harris-Teeter store  (a Southeast US grocery/pharmacy chain) and the pharmacist said they could select from several sources, and could promise me they would always give me the same brand.  Problem solved!

You need to contact every pharmacy you can and inquire about what brands they carry, and more importantly, how much control do they over their supply sources.

If you have a rite-aid by you, check if they can order that brand.  I could only use qualtest brand clonazepam, and rite aid carried a few different brands.

I know when CVS did this to me, they special ordered the brand I wanted.  It only took two days to get in. I tried the same with Walgreens and they refused to help. My small mom and pop shop in CT did help me as well. Might want to keep dialing. :smitten:
