Have you tapered without symptoms??

Hi everyone, I have been googling away to see the fastest taper plan that gives you hardly any withdrawal symptoms (so in other words, not fast at all haha) Do I need to try like 3% cut a month? Or will 5% a month do it with bare minimum effects? I am expecting some withdrawal symptoms of course, but I am in no hurry to get off. I want to be benzo free with the least amount of pain. I can't have symptoms that will effect me too much since I am a nanny for very small children. I need to stay clear headed and not endanger the welfare of the little ones. It would be horrible and also end my job if I started hallucinating or had a seizure while they were in my care.

Thought I'd reach out and see who has gone super slow as well and what cut rate worked for them without too many effects.

1) No one can tell you what an appropriate taper rate will be for YOU. Many folks can taper very quickly, or even CT with only minimum sxs, while a few  are miserable no matter how slow they go.  The best approach is to try a conservative taper rate an make adjustments based on your results.  The best advice for tapering is listen to your body.  Tapers should always be symptom-driven.

2) If you do a cut&hold taper, the initial shock of the cut will be the same, no matter how long you hold.  Smaller cuts, more often, will  always be more tolerable than big cuts and long holds.

Builder is right, everyone's body is different, so what works for one might be misery for someone else.  Personally I did a flat .0625mg cut every 2 weeks on my Xanax taper.  That worked great for me.  I started at 3mg, so the first cut was very tiny percentage wise.  I think it was 2%, but the further on you go in the taper, that same .0625mg becomes a larger percentage.  It worked for me, but I was also (and still) taking Seroquel, which I believe greatly relieved my withdrawal symptoms.

I'm now tapering my Seroquel and decided on a daily micro taper to really minimize wd symptoms.  So I'm doing a 5% daily microtaper.  That means every day I taper a tiny bit more than the day before.  Basically you take 5% of your dose and divide it by 14 days.  That gets you the mg that you're tapering each day.  So day 1 you're reducing by 1/14th of the 5%, day 2 you're reducing by 2/14ths, day 3 by 3/14ths and so on.  I set up a spreadsheet with the help of SG57 and it works great, easy as all the calculating is done for you.  In early October I started at 75mg and I'm down to 55mg with no wd symptoms whatsoever.

There are several threads here on daily micro tapering.  If you're looking for a minimal symptom taper, that would be the one to try.

Here's a great thread on micro tapering:
