Amoxicillin set back

[ba...]

Recommended Posts

Hello

I am 3.5 years off ad and benzos and was doing really good.  Two weeks ago I developed chest infection and my doctor said I have to take a 7 days course of antibiotics Amoxicillin.  I was so reluctant to do it, but I was really ill with this infection that I finally started the course of treatment.  Was ok on it at the beginning but towards the end of the course started to get palpitations, high anxiety, panic attacks, weak legs and arms, dyzziness and out of balance feeling.

I finished the course of a/b on Sunday and have all these symptoms still here.  I've seen the other topic about the alcohol set back and my topic is similar but about Amoxicillin set back.  Can anyone tell me what should I now expect, have I lost a year in recovery?  I also cannot bear another long withdrawal  :'( :'(.

Thank you so much, I'm so anxious right now that cannot really think straight

If your that far out and we're doing well my guess is a minor setback maybe a couple weeks, stressing out about isn't gonna help you. You know its withdrawal and you know the antibodics flared your symptoms so just know it will go back to how you were soon.

Thank you Mcaveman, I was really panicking yesterday  :( :(

Just wondering what do I do next time I need to take a course of antibiotics, should I take Amoxicillin again (I heard it's the one that people have the least problems with) and just try to cope with anxiety until I finish the course?  Or is it not a good idea and I should stop it when I start experiencing high anxiety?

I never had any problem with any antibiotics before AD and benzos?

Are people become less sensitive to them as the time goes or is this how it's always going to be now?

Try Cefuroxime. I'm on it right now and I'm 13 months out. It caused an increase in drowsiness, dizziness, headaches, and delayed anxiety. Other then that, I'm good. I'm currently on day 6 of 10. I'm sure I'll be fine. It seems to be a decent antibiotic. My chest infection started clearing up within 1-2 days.  ;D

Just wondering, are we going to tolerate antibiotics better as the time goes or this is how it's going to be from now on... I could take ANY antibiotic with no problems before.

Still feeling very anxious (4th day after finishing the course of Amoxicillin).

I think we will be ok as time passes. Did you take amoxicillin with clavulanate? Apparently the clavalanate can act as an antidepressant in some ways. So maybe that's why you are reacting differently.

Also you should take probiotics with it. I take a probiotic right after my second dosage around 2/3 pm to reinocculate with good bacteria. Remember a lot of our seretonin comes from the gut.

No it was just the Amoxicillin (without the clavulanic acid) and because I am 3.5 years off and was doing very well I was hoping that I'll be ok to take it...

Will try probiotic, thanks Bhealthy17 x
