Hunger and hypo

[KD...]

Recommended Posts

I developed hypoglycemia symptoms during tapering Valium and afterwards. Has gotten much worse since I tried to reduce the amount of gluten I ate. Before that I just had a hypo sometimes after 3 hours. But I ate low carb, low calories. Then I started having episodes where I would fall asleep after dinner or lunch. Now, it is constant hunger. Getting hypoglycemic if I don't eat every 1.5 hours. I have to eat carbs, otherwise I would still get hypo. And even then I often remain hypoglycemic. As if my blood sugar won't come up anymore. I measured it often and it is within range. My body tries to correct this by making loads of adrenaline. I also tapered my probiotics over the past months, because someone muscle tested that ai was intolerant to it.

Now I read a lot of testimonials here that extreme hunger and hypoglycemia with normal blood sugar values is common in benzo withdrawal.

My questions are:

- Do you think this can be withdrawal from tapering a probiotic and trying to interfere with gluten?

- I am 19 months off. Would this be a thing that gets better by time? Anyone have this experience and got better?

I am feeling so hopeless as I have to eat so often not to faint or get anxious and dizzy. My gut is very upset with this. Often nauseous and painfull stomach. It is hard to feel so ill all the time.

I'm dealing with that right now. I actually went to ER the other day thinking my blood sugar would be low, but it was not. But I felt faint, weak, and noticed I hate to eat often to avoid that feeling. I also felt this way right after my jump, but it went away, and it came back during my 5th month. I hate the feeling, but I just try to drink protein drinks throughout my day with oatmeal, and that keeps me feeling balanced.. It's a known symptom, and I haven't read anyone finding a way to make it better, expect just waiting it out. That's what I'm doing at the moment. It does improve, it's just a very frustrating symptom to have. I hope you start to feeling better soon.

I know this thread is old but im having a horrible time with a gnawing constant hunger feeling. A couple times blood sugar was low but mostly normal. Dr is testing blood sugar stuff now.  Have also had an EGD and am on Prilosec but I suspect it's klonopin related. Been trying to get off of only .75 klonopin for a couple of years now after being on for over 25. It causes intense panic attacks... this feeling. Barely leave my home. So disabling. Has anyone had any success with this hypo hunger issue ? I was almost off last June also was tapering Prozac then but the gnawing caused me to go back up. Feeling so hopeless.  Have to stuff sweet bread cakes into my face to help it all.  :'(

Sometimes eating cheese helps with the hunger, or beans/lentils. I need some fat or fiber to help me feel satisfied, carbs alone don't do it.

Thanks for the reply. I've been trying to figure out what helps and nothing seems to really help. I'm definitely getting fatter because the gnawing feels like hunger.

I think it's purely withdrawal if your blood sugar readings are normal. I get that dizzy, shaky lightheaded feeling sometimes when my blood sugare is fine. We're just getting mixed signals. But if eating helps you feel better you should eat something. Every 1.5 hours is still in a "normal" range. I think nuts, cheese, fruit.

They dropped to 50's and 60's a couple of times so she's checking some things.  Even when I eat or drink something sugary they seem to go back down to 70's pretty quickly. Just wondering if tolerance /wd can actually cause hypoglycemia.  :'(

This is happening to me big time over the past month. If I don't eat something with protein and carbs, I dip and I feel hungry most of the day. I have gained a few lbs this month and worse I am exercise intolerant. Trying to eat super clean. This is very frustrating

The hypo gets better on some days and worse on others for me. It could be from your gluten removal of course, our bodies do take time to get used to stuff. Then again it could just be the trials and tribulations of benzo withdrawal. I was up late last night with terrible hypo. Woke up shaky a few times during the night. I have had it bad like you where it happens every 1.5 hrs. Just break you meals up into smaller meals and eat something. This only lasted a week or two and now its back to every few hours, more manageable. I think its just a benzo thing. It will definitely pass.

My meal plan spaced every 3-4 hrs

1 scoop whey protein 1/2 banana shake 1 tbs fish oil

MM:2 eggs and 1/2 cup brown rice

lunch: 4 oz ground turkey

4 oz sweet potato

greens

olive oil and vinegar dressing

MA:Protein powder 1 scoop

1 peach

1 tbs fish oil

Dinner: same as lunch

before bedtime snack

1 apple

1 tbs peanut butter

This seems to be working pretty well for me to keep things under control, if i cheat and don't follow this, all bets are off

also I find that If I eat any processed foods like gluten free lasagna frozen, I have issues.

I started taking chromium picolinate 200 mg. 1 pill in AM with breakfast 1 around 4 pm with snack. It has helped tremendously with the hypoglycemia. I pretty much saw results within two days and mine was really bad. I got this idea from SSRI974 member. She also said it helped. It doesn't interfere with Gaba. I feel much better and more in control. I'm still not perfect, but it really is about 80-90 percent improvement now after about 5 days.

I tried Chromium once and then got very tired. I did not have a blood sugar meter, so I am not sure if it actually lowered my blood sugar too much. I tend to overreact to supplements and medications. I have the chromium in my cupboard though. Waiting for me to try it. Currently my biggest problem is hyperglycemialike symptoms. Falling asleep after most meals as soon as blood sugar raises. I lowered my carbs a lot, but still get this. And I am not allone according to some other posts in this forum.

Not heard of Chromium before but reading about it I am worried it can cause some quite serious side effects.

Sorry, but I was Googling and this thread was at the top. It seemed best not to start a new thread. Going through this right now. Hungry all the time but also nauseous and vomiting.

I read somewhere that benzos affect our hormones and thinking they may also affect our thyroid making it over-active. The only other time I've had hunger this bad is from thyroid meds which speed it up.

Muscles too weak for exercise. That's the only way to regulate a thyroid and our appetites naturally. I'm using medical marijuana to help with the nausea and vomiting. Anyone else?

I have this severely atm, im 24 months off and had it off and on throughout this horror trip but now it's back with a real vengeance, feels like a gnawing hunger pain but then im nauseated as well, nothing seems to help, i eat and it's still there, so surviving on warm milk atm which i hate but feels gentler on my stomach. Im just waiting it out, it does ease up with a window but they don't come often. I  also get a sickly headachy feeling with it as well. It's just horrible. I don't want to take any meds like PPI bcuz i tried one in the past and it didn't work, i found out i don't metabolise PPIs so nothing for it except to keep on keeping on.
