So my symptoms tend to calmed down before sleeping but now and there i am going to sleep with feeling of uncontrollable fear, much different than panic attack or sever anxiety. it is starting before i go to bad and sometimes last till morning sometimes shorter. It is just going away by itself. I cannot explain this feeling different than feeling of horror and terror and undeliverable fear...Cannot calm my self down nohow and with sever anxiety and panic i can. It is like existential fear of death or something horrible that will happened..Very strange and hard to handle. Do you have this and what can do?

Masha, I became afraid of my bed and sleeping area (at the time I lived in a 5th wheel RV). I'd move to the teeny couch and see the sleeping area as one of darkness. I told one Dr. (in tears and embarrassment) that "I was afraid of my bed."  Of course, that went over well!!!  The problem was not addressed.

I believe it comes from sleep deprivation. We dread bedtime because for the most part, no relief is there for us. If we manage to sleep, many of us wake with heart palps, anxiety.  Is it no wonder we develop a feeling of dread.

Remember that innate 'flight or fight' instinct we are all born with, now kicks in due to our fear.  It is a vicious cycle.

I have moved (finally) but tend to avoid the bedroom which is not good, because the couch has become where many of my days are spent and then where I attempt to sleep.  With your post I believe I am going to try and make myself move to my bed so I don't associate the couch with lack of sleep and fear. It (couch) has become associated with all the stress over trying to find Benzo W/D answers, lost time, and again, fear.

Get up occupy yourself. (I know, I know you want sleep, and the bed is where you are supposed to get it.) You said "Now and then" so this is occasional. Again, if I were you I'd leave the area of fear/terror...get a cup of tea, read a book etc. Keeping your mind occupied with every day things.

Unfortunately, sometimes there is nothing that you can do except ride out the storm. It, like all storms, will pass. Unlike a real storm, what you are going through is all in your head and does not represent any real threat to your safety. Just make yourself as comfortable as possible and resist giving your fear more fuel. The world can be a scary place, but nothing different has really happened outside of your withdrawal experience. You will get through this and will one day look back and be glad that it is over.
